Their plans are drugs thanks to Pharma. Pharma corporations fund a lot of medical schools. It's all about the almighty buck(s)... I don't blame the medical and drug industries for wanting to make money. If they didn't make money, they could not exist, and that goes for almost anything. The way I see it, the real problem is the materialist philosophy which has taken over modern science and medicine. They sincerely believe that nature is dead and mindless, and life began and evolved haphazardly. They don't see the universe as creative intelligent spirit. They don't see the intricate intelligence in every aspect of living things. Therefore, they see no problem with interfering with complex natural processes. They don't think holistically, they don't think in terms of complex systems. They don't understand that when you interfere with one part of a complex system, there are usually unintended consequences. That is why throwing toxic drugs into a complex system seems perfectly ok to them. That is why genetic engineering -- modifying DNA in unpredictable ways -- seems perfectly ok to them. Most DNA is NOT understood -- so how could it be ok to modify something you don't understand? The medical industry is making tons of money doing things they believe are good. The food industry also. They are destroying our health. The materialist philosophy, if it continues to dominate science and medicine, will destroy our civilization.

I believe there are ways to reconcile both modern medicine and traditional I have had medical issues in past that I put total faith in modern Western medicine and recovered quite well. There are certain ailments I trust traditional Chinese medicine and successfully solve problem. I grew up with knowledge of both. As psychologist, I rely on the psychiatrist to provide medications as needed, even though there are traditional medications which might work but would be inappropriate to recommend for PTSD for example. Traditional medicine has much merit Do I still go to Chinese Apothecary?? Of course for some ailments but if I get infection antibiotics are the best for recovery

I mix my treatments up and go to nutritional supplements first, and so much in between and the pharma drugs, last...they are the most toxic to our bodies as I have found in my over 80 yrs.

The problem is that drugs are used for many things they are NOT good for. It's because all most medical doctors know is drugs or surgery. That is why the main focus in psychiatry today is drugs. Yes the drugs can help some patients calm down and function, but they are not a long term solution to mental illness. The brain and its chemistry are not understood well, and throwing in toxic artificial chemicals can't do it any good. But yes, I understand that a violent psychotic patient must be drugged. Better than what they did to those patients in the past. Still, it is not a good solution and psychiatry makes no real progress.

The philosophy of current mainstream medicine is that medicine should be poison. They never think of medicine as something that restores balance. And they fight like mad against homeopathy and chiropractic, which try to restore health and balance.

I tend to disagree there are many psychotropic medications which very beneficial to individuals with many disorders. I indicated that I do believe in traditional medicine but there are limits

I tend to disagree there are many psychotropic medications which very beneficial to individuals with many disorders. I indicated that I do believe in traditional medicine but there are limits Psychiatric drugs only dull symptoms. They do nothing to correct the problem. They do NOT restore the correct balance of neurotransmitters. Some psychiatrists question the mainstream, and they think the drugs make patients worse in the long term. And I know people who started anti-depressants and are still on them many years later, because they don't want to go through the withdrawal. We do not know what those drugs do to the brain, especially after many years. And they are one of the most commonly used prescription drugs! Sure you see some good results with drugs. You would also see good results, for a while, with heroin or cocaine.

My dr said to go to a chiropractor and she told me what natural supplements to take. example cinnamon for blood sugar. Newer generation drs seem to employ both natural and mainstream. nkat

I thought you make some good points but to be totally biased against medications is not being wise it is being controversial for its own sake. Modern medicine has allowed schizophrenics to join society rather than chain them up in institutions antidepressants can help those whom if not taking them might not be alive Psychology and psychiatry have not always been perfect but much better than blaming witchcraft or voodoo for mental illness.

I never said psychiatric drugs should never be used. But they are very much over-used, and they are not what most people think they are. They do not restore mental health. There are some psychiatrists who believe patients who take them are worse off in the long run. I can give you links if you want. Some psychiatrists say that schizophrenia is often temporary, but the drugs cause the disability to be permanent. Schizophrenic patients who take the drugs, according to those psychiatrists, are much less likely to recover and become mentally healthy. That is not the mainstream opinion, of course. But I think we should look at more than just the mainstream. Mainstream medicine, including psychiatry, have become drug-crazed. Even very young children are now being drugged. No one knows how it could affect their developing brains. The drug companies have convinced everyone that their drugs are carefully tested and that adverse affects are very rare. They do this with deceptive research. People are easily fooled by long complicated research papers with lots of statistics. Almost no one actually reads more than the abstract. I read an article, which I could try to find if you want, explaining some of the deceptive strategies that make drugs look safe and effective, even when they aren't.

I as a clinical forensic psychologist know for fact that schizophrenia is not “ temporary” it is chronic pervasive mental disorder Medication does help in most cases there are side effects with any chemical but the benefit often outweighs them. Without psychotropic medications psychology and psychiatry go back to Middle Ages with chaining people to walls in dungeon-like so called “hospitals”

But some psychiatrists believe otherwise. They say that schizophrenics often recover naturally. I'll look for one of the articles.
