Reviving this thread. As I usually do, I've overindulged while in Thailand and have gained. Last winter I really overdid it and many of my shorts and tops became too tight to wear! Not going to happen this time!
Unfortunately, cold beer on a beach is a very pleasant activity for me. Some snacking is also to blame. Dinners are almost always very healthy - lots of veggies.
Made a pledge this week. Starting yesterday (Sunday) no beer all week. No snacking. Healthy eating only. If we go sit at our beach bar and I feel deprived I will have 1 gin and tonic. Next Sunday night we'll go to the big local weekly market which includes lots of food stalls and cheap cocktails and beer and I'll reward myself, but not go overboard. Then behave all week.
We do get exercise - dawn bike rides, lots of walking, muscle work at home a couple of times a week.

It is my favourite alcohol, especially for sitting on a beach. All alcohol is not great for weight loss, but at least there are no carbs. A lot of cocktails are loaded with sugar, so that's not great. Gin and low cal tonic (with lime) is good, but there is no low carb tonic here in Thailand. Whisky and water is good. I sometimes get vodka coolers (too much sugar), but I could try your drink.

Brought a jar for my porridge since I knew I wouldn't be using raisins. But it will run out soon and I don't think they sell it here. All products don't have English labels.

Just went shopping. Found 0% sugar Sprite, bought a bottle of gin. Looked for limes. None. Went to lots of fruit/veg stalls on the side of the road. No limes. ? They have very small limes here - you cut one in half and put both in your drink. Lemons costs a fortune. Limes are cheap, when you find them.

I would think citrus crops would do well in Thailand, they thrive in Florida. Gin, my parents used to drink gin & tonic; "very British" I used to hear my dad say. They picked up that habit when my dad was stationed in Bristol, England as a vice counsel in the U.S. consulate there.

We are often given a small lime or two halved with our dinners, so don't know what happened today. We buy little mandarins a lot but I believe they are grown in China. Also, pineapples and mangoes and passionfruit and bananas. I believe the British drank a lot of gin and tonic (quinine) when in India for malaria. I only started drinking gin and tonic about 4 or 5 years ago. Husband doesn't drink it often, except on long flights. And he has quite a few. I've joined him now. I have found the wine in economy class is awful (good in business) and the beer is usually a brand I don't want.

In Vietnam we were supposed to take quinine tablets to prevent malaria. Right as I was set to return to the States I can down with malaria, which delayed my arrival home by several weeks.

Malaria is a nasty disease!! Does it reoccur with you? We lived in Uganda for 2 years and took antimalarial tablets (mefloquine) the entire time. Never caught it.

In 3 weeks I'll be joining my sil and her husband (my hubby's brother) in Saigon for 4 nights. SIL and I are bad influences on each other. So I really should behave extra well before then (and after). I don't want my shorts too tight!

EEEk gads! I lost 5 lbs and I didn't want to. I do a lot of exercise and CrossFit, but cut out most alcohol mainly because it makes me feel crappy when I go to work out. I think it is because hubby and I are eating more sensibly with a lot more fresh fruits and veggies from the garden [frozen]. I've always been on the other side of the weight issues. Less than more.
I need to eat cake, mebbe.

Thai food is usually loaded with veggies - 6 different veggies in many dishes. However, I like a cold beer or 2 or 3 especially sitting in the shade next to a beach. Sweet tooth. Also love salty snacks. I also get a lot of exercise.

Malaria is a nasty disease!! Does it reoccur with you? For several years after, I think it did. There hasn't been any [suspected] recurrences since the mid/late 70s.
