Exactly 3 years ago, August 28, 2017, the day I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2, I weighed 216.2 pounds. I was very 'porky', especially for a short woman with a small frame. I'd gained a tremendous amount of weight in the year prior to my diagnosis. I was even too embarrassed to mention my actual 'poundage' here, only posting pounds lost.
Now, 3 years later to the day, I weigh 152.2 pounds. That's a loss of 64 pounds, or 29.6% of my previous weight. It took a long time, but I don't mind saying I'm proud of that achievement, as well as very grateful for how much better I feel.
I couldn't resist celebrating by posting my good news here! Yippee!!! That is fabulous news!! I have gained back all the weight I lost over the last 3 years.. The Pandemic and being pretty much inside our house has left us pretty much without much to do but sit around and eat.. and drink too many martini's .. I know we should get out and at least walk around the neighborhood... but it seems like we are in a state of inertia at present..

I think my problem is that I set too lofty of a goal and then I give up and fail.. So.. I'm going to scale down my expectations and attempt to lose a pound a week by the end of the year.. So that's 17 pounds..
I really feel horrible with this weight on.. It's simply got to come off.. Not for vanity but for health.. I'm also going to try to get out and walk.. starting with low goals too. One mile a day early in the morning. oh.. and water.. I need to increase my water intake.. So after my walk this morning I sat in the yard and drank a bottle of water.. 24 ounces.. and then I felt like I could have more, so I drank another bottle.. so 48 oz total. This isn't easy for me because I deal with pretty bad bladder issues.. but I've learned a few tricks with my physical therapy.. and so far so good..

Sounds like a solid plan, I just wish I could control my falling back into bad eating habits time and time again. I still manage to loose, but seem to gain most of it back time and time again. Quite frustrating, but, like you, I think setting smaller more realistic goals sounds like something I need to try as well. I'd settle for letting go of 15 lbs or even 10 in the next few months. Good luck with your goals QS and everyone still trying.

QuickSilver and rosa427, modest goals have the best chance of success, and I'm sure you can both succeed with a 'slow and steady' approach. I only averaged a loss of about 2 pounds a month over the last 3 years, but pounds slowly lost have the best chance of staying off. I still need to lose more, but plan to do it very gradually, without starving.
I wish you both every success in reaching your goals!

Woke up this morning and it was pouring rain.. and it kept on with a slow drizzle until 10:30.. I am so determined to stick to my simple walking one mile a day pledge.. that I took advantage of the break in the rain and did my walk.. I also managed to drink my daily allotment of water.. So.. now that's 2 days in a row... onward!!!

I love to walk too. Especially in the Fall when it's cool out. I have been using an app called "My Fitness Pal". I'm not trying to lose a bunch of weight (some, but not a bunch); however, I was an athlete most of my life (gymnastics, martial arts, basketball, softball, etc), but once I had children I would exercise but not EXERCISE if you know what I mean. So, now that my daughters are older & I have more "me" time, I'm trying to get back toned up. I exercise daily, usually walking, jogging, aerobics, yoga, pilates, etc. I switch up what I do each day so that I don't get bored... and I'm really seeing a difference in the definition in my legs, arms, & abs. I love the feeling of having a strong body again.

I have been using an app called "My Fitness Pal" I love MyFitenssPal, been using it for 760 days. I met my weight goal, even surpassed it by 20 lb.s! Now, I'm using MFP to maintain my weight, planning how to gain more muscle without regaining fat, a very touchy operation.

I had been weighing myself 2-3 times a week, kind of got out of the habit. Noticed that I've put on 8 pounds in the past 6 months.
Not the end of the world, I expected to gain a few pounds as I was eating more protein, and several protein rich foods that I was eating also contain more fat.
Saturated fat- a bad fat, but is hard to avoid altogether.
Monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats are the "good fats", found in:

I've edged upward a few pounds over the last month. I need to get more disciplined, but it's not easy when you're isolating at home all the time. My biggest weakness is potato chips! After I get vaccinated against covid-19, probably somewhere in early spring, I plan to get out for walks. I'd very much like to stabilize eventually somewhere between 140 and 150 pounds. Right now I range between 153 and 155.
