Oh geez...that's not good to hear. Would the weather have anything to do with them changing the closing date? Did you tell them you had to close on the 31st? I think they're just so big that they don't think about their customers. At the right time they'll hear about it from me. I think they're oblivious to how this has impacted us, as the construction supervisor seemed to think they were doing us a favor by extending out to the 16th. Had they given me a call last week, all of this could have been avoided. I'd told them we'd close early if we could, and now we can, but instead they just chose the date. I'd be hard pressed to recommend them at this point, just based on our experience with the sales team. We'll get it worked out, but what a hassle and a potentially costly one at that. You have better composure over this than I would have had. I'd have been reading him the riot act! Oh sure, it's a hassle and costly. I hope it does all get worked out soon. You've already done so much planning for this move.

Trip to U-Haul today to get moving supplies. Spent over $100 on a variety of boxes, bubble wrap, paper and sealing tape. The other day I managed to pack all my long sleeve dress shirts (that I used to wear every day, but now seldom do) into the suitcase we use for vacation travel. Slowly but surely starting to pack up stuff.

I'm just saying that the wine glasses, a fine set of crystal we received as a wedding gift, will be one of the last things loaded into the car with me. Not taking any chances with these beauties on the moving truck (he said while sipping a glass of very fine "1000 Stories", bourbon barrel aged zinfandel).

Got a few interior pictures today. At this point looking like we'll be in there mid-Feb. Still working out when we'll be out of our present home, but the packing is well underway. Looking towards what will be our kitchen: Dining room looking towards front door with 2nd bedroom on right and study at end of hall on the right.

Next week we should have a bunch more pictures as they're putting in the granite counter tops and the painters will be done. Tile work starts next week, then flooring. Our pre-move inspection is on 2/9. Closing is 2/16, so we hope to move in the same day or the day following.
I've been really busy packing. Every day I've spent a few hours on boxing things up. There's so much to do and we potentially have to be done by 1/30 if our buyers can't agree to extend the closing on our house. We've offered them our porch furniture as compensation for the cost of extending the rate lock on their mortgage, but they have to see what their lender will charge. Today we have to choose a mover. Got two quotes from companies that were highly rated on Angie's List, but one was over $1,000 higher with a huge difference in the hourly rate for labor. Sad thing is that we liked the more expensive company better, but they're so far off the other competitor's quote that I don't see how we can use them.
Trying to decide if we should get rid of some furniture. Might call Salvation Army. They'll take it away for free.

Helped my wife with some of her packing today. She filled up five medium boxes and a grand wardrobe and a "shorty" wardrobe (all UHaul boxes). My upstairs office is now 1/3 filled with boxes, my family room is about 1/3 filled with boxes and the cellar has the rest. Slowly but surely the house is being readied, though we're still a month away from moving. Feels good to have so much done already. I think it will come in handy as we get closer to the actual move.

You and your wife seem very organized Bob, which will make the final move easier and less exhausting.

You and your wife seem very organized Bob , which will make the final move easier and less exhausting. The packing continues; I filled a few more boxes yesterday. We are trying to do everything we can to make the move as seamless as possible. We'll be storing some of the more valuable/fragile things at my sister-in-law's house so that we don't have to have them on the moving truck. We've chosen a moving company and have a date to move out (2/14) and now just need to figure out the logistics of moving into the new home. We're trying to give away some furniture that either won't fit in our new place or we plan to replace, so that will reduce some of the time/cost of the move. Yesterday was another example in this process, where I said goodbye to the person who has been my dental hygienist for many years. I've probably been seeing her for over 20 years. At the end of the month, it will be time to say goodbye to my barber, a woman who has been cutting my hair for 34 years! My mind is starting to drift sometimes to memories that have been created in this house. I've lived her longer than any place in my entire life.

Got a few new pictures from the builder yesterday. Hall bathroom with the tile and flooring installed. Center island in the kitchen. This is the study, and gives a good view of the floor being installed. We have built-in bookshelves on the wall. This looks from the great room towards the kitchen and shows some of the fixtures we've chosen.
