I am a senior and no way am I up at that time! Nkat Retired over 3 years and still out of bed before 5 a.m. every morning.... 7 days/week! Used to be able to go grab things at the grocery store before 6 a.m. when it wasn't crowded. Now, they don't even open until 7 a.m. Packed at 7:20 this morning. My wife does not see the "necessity" of rolling out of bed until 9 to 10 a.m. Of course, she will read until midnight or after. It's funny how folks adopt such different sleep habits. Just another way that shows the uniqueness of the individual. I am not a morning person either. I will read until 1 or 2 in the morning! nkat

Interesting segment on NPR this morning. Convenience stores with gas pumps are deemed "essential" and are staying open. Many have noticed significant drop in sales since folks don't want to come inside. Customers are just using their cards at the pumps. So... the store owners are offering large cash discounts. That is to entice the customers to come inside and take advantage of that cash discount. When they are inside, the hope is they will pick up candy, coffee, snacks, etc. Store owners say they can't make it on fuel sales alone. Not enough margin. Hence the incentive to get them inside the store. Isn't that sorta like putting cheese on a mousetrap? Bait them with the cash discount so they don't worry about cross contamination while inside the store.

Our county is now on a Stay at Home order which went into effect last night at 8 PM. Still only one case of COVID-19 in our county with no new ones reported.

I had a long discussion with my farrier yesterday. A farrier trims hooves on equine and is essential for the health of the animal. We discussed if his services were essential and worked out a way for him to come and be 'socially' distant and trim my small herd.
He says he is not allowed to travel to Minnesota or Illinois because of travel restrictions. Most of his business is large barns in the wealthy suburbs of Chicago. He says potentially he can loose most of his business as the folks without jobs won't be able to support the luxury of having a stabled horse to show, ride, and have for pleasure.
My equine actually are important and not just as pets. I use them when I go foraging in the woods. If I got ill, I would have to figure out how to care for them.
Anyway. Crossing state lines is frowned on in my tri-state area. The cops aren't stopping Minnesota plates yet, but Illinois is stopping out of state plates now.

Letters from the UK government went out yesterday based on notifications from GPs on which of their patients are high risk. They are ordered to stay home for the next 12 weeks. Deliveries of supplies and meds will be arranged.

Stay at home ordered for ALL 67 counties in Pennsylvania. Does that mean I don't have to go to work tomorrow?

Stay at home ordered for ALL 67 counties in Pennsylvania. Does that mean I don't have to go to work tomorrow? What would people buy to eat if you didn't keep the cases well stocked?

Looks like I better stock up on TP as things might get out of hand at some point, but, for today, there's still plenty of TP on the shelves. We are under a strict only step out for essentials and over sixty must stay in period. I figure, I'll still be able to head out since the girl in one supermarket line pointed out the isle was for seniors only. I don't have anyone to shop for me and figuring out this Mexican Walmart grocery delivery apps is straining my brain. Next time I head to the supermarket, I will try to stock up with enough to last for at least till the end of the month because eventually someone will squint their eyes and ask to see some ID especially since I mostly am keeping covered when I head out. I know eventually things are going to hit the fan with so many now out of work, especially in this area where so many depend on income from serving the tourist industry. I feel bad for many of the workers to the point, I just hand people a dollar and don't take the item their selling.

The state of North Carolina was put on a "stay at home" order as of this past Monday.
On an interesting note, all of the Chinese restaurants in town have closed (despite being deemed essential- take out only). They said people aren't coming in b/c they're now afraid to eat Chinese food.

New South Wales (NSW) is on a version of lockdown. We are supposed to stay home unless we are going to work (and if we can work at home we are encouraged to do so), shopping for essentials or needing medical attention. Doctors are now allowed to practise telemedicine for routine consultations. Exercise is allowed. You can go for a walk with or without the dog but gatherings in the park are prohibited.
In our homes we are not supposed to have more than 2 people present (family members who share the household are allowed) and when outside the house you may not congregate with more than one other person. Police now have the power to stop people for questioning and you can be fined for breaking these rules. People organising parties and BBQs are likely to face some gaol time.
I am leaving the house about once a week to stock up on fresh food. I keep in touch with family on FB or by phone and I've learned to use Skype for Bible study group. All activities of the church are closed down but we can access Sunday service online. Pastoral care by phone has been ramped up to make sure everyone is OK. Our congregation consists of quite a lot of elderly people.
Weddings can only have 5 people present and funerals 10. Boot camps are banned except for one on one training sessions. Sport is off because large public gatherings are prohibited. Parliament is shut down although the business of government goes on but social distancing must be exercised at all times, indoor and outdoors.
Schools are still open but I'm not sure for how long, and child care centres are being supported by the federal government so that essential workers can continue to work.
Day by day my house is becoming a lot cleaner. If this keeps up it will be presentable enough to auction but open house inspections are banned so I guess I won't be selling any time soon. Just as well. I don't want to move.

Local police department began going to businesses who were supposed to be closed... and weren't. Issuing warnings... ONCE. If the business does not abide they will be forcibly closed and fined. Local health department predicting we won't hit our peak until the end of April. Out here in the Midwest, we are at the tail end of the "wave". Menard's... a large building supply retailer... is not allowing any person under 16 years old into their store. Idiots are using the large retailers like Home Depot, Walmart, etc. as "family outings". Walmart had to ask a family of two adults and three small children to leave. They had brought their puppy. Three kids were running wild while mom had the puppy on a leash. Witnesses said the dad was very threatening to staff because he had a "right" to take his family to Walmart. Sheesh! We are up to 11 confirmed in our county. So far, all 11 have been cases where the folks have traveled out of the area and brought it back. So far... no community spread.

New shopping rules are going up for some places. One person, one cart. Only one person shopping at a time.
I haven't been to town in two weeks so I don't know how things are going there. The hardware store will take phone in orders and set your items out for you. Two small businesses in town have become virtual stores. Though I'm not sure how I could buy clothing without wanting to try it on first.
