Cart buddy really upset that their Bishop cancelled all masses. This morning, he said they also are saying any church-held funeral will be permitted to ONLY have the very immediate family in attendance. The church will have the technology whereby folks can stream/watch the funeral remotely. He and his wife go to every funeral in a 200 mile radius. The rest of our group has joked that, evidently, no one is really dead until ***** and his wife okay it.
Our church council met last night and all service and activities at our church are cancelled until further notice.

They closed down all the church fish fries. That is how they made extra money for the Church.

Their church is demanding that they come to service, A "true" church would ask its' parishioner's to stay home but only a "cult" would demand things/services from its' members.
Sounds like a 'cult' to me louie.

City Hall now closed. At least two local restaurants shut down. Another laid off 70% of their staff. Movie theater closed. J.C. Pennys closing nationwide for a few days. We have on in our local mall.
County says they may need to close bars and restaurants. A bunch of the folks are crying, "Socialists!" Would expect nothing less from some of the idiots doing the squawking.

Sounds like a 'cult' to me louie. This was the church that told my DIL that she should stay home and watch the kids and that the kids should not go to public school and should only learn what the church approves as studies. The children are only allowed to socialize with other church members and of course my husband and I are not on that list! My grand daughter told me we were 'heathens' because we didn't attend their church, but she liked coming to see us anyway. DIL has refused to take the kids to the church right now for a while. I think she understands that it is for the safety of their family. However her husband refuses to stay home from work and he is in a county with confirmed cases. He believes he is immune.

Just saw on Facebook our local "Pizza Ranch" has their buffet open and are seating inside the restaurant. Buffet???? If you are unfamiliar with Pizza Ranch, they have a number of different pizzas, fried chicken, potatoes, veggies, etc. all on their buffet line. So... people are going through a buffet and handling the mashed potato spoon, reaching in and grabbing slices of pizza without using the spatula and, if they are using the spatula... so is everyone else!!! Dozens of comments, mostly negative. But, there are a few defenders who say it is their right to open or close when they want to. You can't fix stupid!!!

And on that note...you can't fix stupid...well.
The veterinarian I saw and her 3 employees all wore masks and gloves. She gave my dog his distemper shot as he was due. She said they were going by the hour/day on whether or not to stay open or closed. Behind her mask? Those eyes looked... scared. We did our transactions without any touching or getting close. Dang. The feed store guy said he hadn't figured out what to do yet. He is an AG business which means he delivers seed, fertilizers, does hired out field work and custom feed grinding.
I wished him well and now we are in down on our farm until at least May. The gas stations were empty too but that may have been because of the downpour.
I am hoping I dodged the bullet. I saw a beer delivery guy wearing nitril gloves...

Greetings from MA. I've been away from this board for some time, but all is well personally. That said, the situation in MA is similar to that in other states. Schools and restaurants are closed. Town Hall is closed. Our local clubhouse is closed. We are practicing "social distancing" and trying to keep in touch with our neighbors from a distance. It's a weird and scary time. Yesterday I led a hike for many of our neighbors in a nearby state forest. It was good to get out. Lots of "dark humor" in our group, but an underlying sense of fear.

@bob I did much the same thing the day before yesterday. Just one other person though. Good that you did that, I'm sure the fresh air helped.

Locally, stupidity is spreading faster than COVID-19. One of our county commissioners, in a public meeting about our response to COVID-19, says we don't have a problem since we don't have a large Chinese population!!! He said that Italy is hit so hard since they have lots of clothing manufacturers and 'fashioners' and many of them are Chinese. We don't have 'fashioners', here, so don't have as many Chinese and are blowing this out of proportion. His last name is Rodriquez! He is solid Mexican heritage, yet makes a racist remark about the Chinese. Sheesh!! themercury.com/news/rodriguez-blames-the-chinese-draws-rebuke-from-reddi/article_4ea74d2e-778b-57ad-b4b9-90b68a3c9a21.html

Australia now has a co-ordinated group consisting of the Prime Minister and all of the premiers of the states and territories. Even so, there are some differences between the states.
Tasmania has closed off from the mainland, banning all non essential traffic to and from other states. School closures are different in different states. The PM intervened to stop catholic schools shutting down in NSW by threatening their funding. Government schools remain open but wealthy independent schools are using computer technology to deliver lessons to students at home.
Our church has suspended all church activities such as playgroups, knitting and bible study. Sunday worship is also cancelled but there will be something filmed and delivered via Youtube. Our 60 place long day care is still open but families are beginning to pull out. Last night the church council met using Skype.
The official policy now social distancing. Outdoor events are limited to under 500 people some major sporting events are taking place in front of empty stands. The football codes are talking about postponing their games. Indoor events are restricted to 100 people, including staff. Our niece has cancelled her wedding reception and will be married on Sunday with only immediate family present.
The honeymoon will have to be postponed because overseas travel is shutting down. If they were even able to holiday somewhere overseas, they might have trouble finding a plane to bring them home and if they did, they would face 14 days isolation in Australia. Our national courier, QANTAS, has mothballed all of its wide body planes and is standing down about 90% of all staff.
