WHO declares coronavirus a pandemic; White House considers moving all of Europe to restrictive travel advisory. By Alex Horton, Miriam Berger, Lateshia Beachum, Hannah Knowles and Michael Brice-Saddler March 11, 2020 at 4:24 p.m. EDT The World Health Organization on Wednesday declared coronavirus a pandemic, reflecting concern from WHO that countries aren’t working quickly and aggressively enough to contain the virus. “We are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity — and by the alarming levels of inaction,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. The declaration came as the number of known novel coronavirus cases surpassed 120,000 worldwide. In the United States, where there are now more than 1,000 cases, the White House is considering moving all of Europe to a Level 3 travel advisory, discouraging all nonessential travel to those regions. President Trump said he will address the nation at 8 p.m. Here are the latest developments: *The Dow reached bear-market territory on a nearly 1,500-point skid as panic intensified about the coronavirus, which threatens to debilitate global economies and bring on a recession. *Ohio will limit large gatherings; Washington state introduced similar measures in a few counties. *India’s health ministry announced it was suspending all existing visas from across the world till April 15. *German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned Wednesday that up to 70 percent of her country could end up infected. source: www.washingtonpost.com/world/2020/03/11/coronavirus-live-updates/

I am still not confident the "stable genius" can even spell or say 'pandemic'. It will be interesting to hear what word salad we are witness to tonight. So far, I've heard nothing hinted at to assist getting more testing done... NOW. I've heard nothing about making it easy for people to get tested... NOW. All I've heard are ideas that would attempt to bring back some of the support he is losing from his base. Payroll tax relief will only benefit the corporations and further deplete SSA and Medicare. And... when he says he only wants to have the payroll taxes stopped until the election is still telling the country... the world... he's more concerned with winning in November than saving lives. He still doesn't seem to be paying any attention to the health professionals. Still believes he is superior in knowledge than them. That has to change or a significant segment of our geriatric population will be wiped out. Here's two of my biggest concerns. #1... the loss of life. Just so difficult to accept that so many of our friends, neighbors, family members may be lost due to the failure of this administration. #2... that Trump will use this as an excuse to cancel the November election and stay in office for an undetermined length of time. Putin just was handed another 12 years in office. Trump is probably drooling at the possibility this pandemic could give him the power to do the same.

I don't know what to believe, I'm hearing most of the colleges are sending students home to work from their computers. Heard a death to today and the woman had other health conditions. An episcopal minister has been reported to have the virus after coming back for a meeting in Louisiana. I am in Southern Calif. Glad I'm not going anywhere.

Many people are looking at unemployment. It would be good. To add money to unemployment, while people could be out of work, because of the coronavirus.Tax cut does little if you are unemployed!

I read this morning that the House is putting forth a bill that will more directly help people but like everything else the Repubs and the abomination-in-chief will probably turn it down while people lose their life savings and many will die.

It's good to keep yourself healthy... and a strong immune system is a good thing.. However, joymarty.. no matter how strong your immune system is, it will not prevent you from contracting COVID-19.. This is a new virus and you have no immunity to it.. You do not have the antibodies to fight it because your body has not been able to make them by being in previous contact with the virus.. This is what makes this so dangerous. We older people are in the most risk.

The way our Governor explained it is that the Federal Government has a clause in unemployment insurance that prohibits people who are healthy and able to work from collecting it.. What states need from the government is a temporary waiver from the government allowing people who are in self quarantine or who have their workplaces closed due to precautionary measures to collect it. So far that is not being done.. and that is what needs to be done.

After reading further........ Senate GOP Blocks Emergency Paid Sick Leave Bill From Moving Forward Source: huff post 03/11/2020 01:34 pm ET Updated 0 minutes ago The legislation put forth by Democrats would guarantee 14 days of paid leave for workers affected by the coronavirus outbreak. Democrats hoping to pass an emergency paid sick leave bill to deal with the fallout from the coronavirus were stymied by Senate Republicans on Wednesday. Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) tried to speed the measure up for a vote on the Senate floor through a procedural maneuver, but an objection from Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) prevented the bill from bypassing the Republican-controlled health committee. Murray noted that many people who don’t have paid leave through their jobs will inevitably miss work due to being sick or quarantined in the coming weeks. She argued that guaranteed paid leave was important both for public health and the good of the broader economy. “For many of our workers ― restaurant workers, truck drivers, service industry workers ― they may not have an option to take a day off without losing their pay or losing their job,” Murray said. “That’s not a choice we should be asking anyone to make in the United States in the 21st century.” .............................................. And most reported deaths which are older people have major underlying health issues. Keep in mind TOO that the regular flu kills up to some 40K people annually and no reporting on this one and millions get flu vaccines. If you have never been exposed to the COVID -19 virus.. you are NOT immune to it.. no matter how much herbs and minerals you consume.
And you keep this in mind... the mortality rate of the "regular flu" is 0.1%.. The mortality rate for COVID-19 across the general population is 3.4% with people 70-79 at 8% and people over 80 at 14.8%.. Stop repeating nonsense.. more people have died from the flu because more people have gotten the flu.. it's the PERCENTAGE of deaths that maters. Covid-19 is more contagious and much more deadly than the flu.... Stop being dense.

Truly amazing you come off like you know all about this virus. I receive many letters and papers and am on blogs from doctors and researchers and I get NONE of your noise about my poor immune system. Perhaps these people need to hire you to educate them. And no mask here and I don't see that happening. And again I prefer to listen to NON gloom and doomer people and those in the holistic world of healing. I just received another email a few minutes ago: First Words Were "Don't Panic".

There are a lot of email scammers stealing from people by using Covid-19 to get them to click on a link that will place malware in their computer. Be careful with email from unknown sources and links to sites you aren't familiar with. It's bad enough this virus could kill us, now we have to worry about scammers. These would be the same people that take advantage of natural disasters to scam the public.
