I have pain right below my shoulder blades also. I've been told, and I believe it's true, that it's mostly the result of a lifetime sitting over keyboards (first typewriters and then later computers), which can cause shortening of some muscles. That is interesting to hear, as it is my right shoulder blade(the mousing side) that is the problematic one. I do spend more time on the computer than is healthy... Yoga! Yoga, tai chi, Alexander technique, all kinds of body work, they all will help with joint and muscle pain. Only take drugs when the yoga, etc., is not enough. Gradually, you will need the drugs less. I never took any painkillers or any kind of drugs for fibromyalgia. When I got it, I saw all kinds of medical doctors but none of them knew what it was. This was in the 1980s. So in a way I was lucky, because now they prescribe Lyrica, which is a bad drug. In 2007 I got Lyme disease, very bad, and had arthritis for at least 6 months. But I never took any drugs or painkillers for it, just kept on doing yoga, walking, etc. Oh actually, I probably did take something or other when it got really terrible. But that was only at the beginning, and not very often. This hopefully counts as evidence that yoga can minimize the need for pain drugs. It is probably unusual for someone to have Lyme arthritis and hardly take any drugs for it.

I am concerned about the increase risk of heart attack and stroke that comes with taking NSAIDS. Here is an article that that discusses the FDA warning that taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increased the risk of having a heart attack or stroke: ...but you know, while I was revisiting this subject and re-reading the article I noticed one statement that I previously had missed:
??? Well shoot, that is an eye opener, this looks to be the solution I was seeking- a simple medication invented 166 years ago!!! Follow up: I got good result from taking (3)325mg aspirin at once, once a day. However, there always seems to be a downside to most medical solutions. the ugly bruising/skin wounding came back with a vengeance, after only 3 days back on the aspirin. I'm done with aspirin.
On the upside: today's circuit class and the yoga class following it did my back right, none of the usual pain at all!

Just do yoga, etc., every day. Drugs should only be for occasional use when absolutely needed.

Yeah that's what I meant by "etc." There is lots more besides yoga.
