First, I think almost all of the candidates did at least pretty well.
First night: I think Warren won hands down. I think Booker did well as did Klobuchar, de Blasio, and Castro. Castro and de Blasio went up a couple of notches in my book. I thought the remaining five had strong moments but likely did nothing to elevate their status.
Second night: While the consensus on morning shows is that Harris and Buttigieg likely won the day, I'm sorry we're not hearing much about Gillibrand who I thought raised the value of her stock considerably. She may have been a little rude, but they all were except for Biden and Yang. Gillibrand struck hard at the root of all government problems - the fact that money controls every aspect of our politics. That ranked her right up there with Harris as far as I'm concerned. Biden seemed somewhat incoherent and meek. Bernie...well, Bernie was Bernie. The others had good moments, but weren't especially memorable with the possible exception of Bennet. This debate was the first time I've heard much from Williamson. Once she finally got a chance to speak, I thought she hit the ground running and I was impressed, but by the end, it's easy to understand why she's not polling well.
Something we all want to know is, who is best equipped to hold their own against Trump in a debate. In my opinion, if our nominee is to beat Trump, the arguments must be based on facts. and the facts must be put forth very assertively. Don't let Trump talk over "you." Many of those facts must be about his lies, his ineptitude, his adultery, his sexual assault allegations, the turnover of his staff, the indictments, his friendliness with enemies and his destruction of alliances, etc. A great deal of research must me done so when Trump lies in the debate, our candidate can call him out and provide the truth based on "X, Y and Z" facts. I think Warren is the best researcher of the bunch and she is incredible at keeping her facts straight. Our candidate must also be an attack dog and force Trump to be on the defensive - not an easy task since he is outstanding at changing the subject to divert attention.
At this point, Warren is my favorite, but I want to hear more. I look forward to the next debate.
