GOP congressman says kids with gay parents would be better off in orphanages in rant to high school studentsIn audio obtained from a speech at a high school, a GOP congressman said orphanages would be preferable to gay adoption. The Los Angeles Blade reported that Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) made the comments during a speech at Colts Neck High School in Colts Neck, New Jersey on May 29. The recording obtained by the Blade begins with Colts Neck senior Hannah Valdes telling Smith that her gay sister may want to adopt in the future. She then asked the congressman if her sister would be “less of a legitimate parent” based on “household studies.” “The issue, legally, is moot at this point especially with the Supreme Court decision,” Smith said, but Valdes pressed on, asking the congressman about his personal beliefs on gay adoption. “There are many others who would like to adopt who can acquire a child,” the lawmaker responded, noting that “the waiting periods are extremely long.” Another student asked Smith what makes “others” better-suited to raising children. “In my opinion a child needs every possibility of —” the Republican said, cutting himself off. “Somebody mentioned orphanages before,” he continued. “I mean, orphanages are still a possibility for some kids.” Valdes told the Blade that earlier in assembly, “another student asked about one of Smith’s votes in 1999 in favor of an amendment that would have banned adoption by gay parents in D.C.” That student asked the congressman if he would still vote that way or if his opinion had changed — and Smith said he still holds that belief. “Rep. Smith responded by saying that he does not approve of gay adoption because gay households are not healthy environments for children to grow up in,” Valdes told the LGBTQ website. “He then stated that ‘numerous household studies’ show that children that have heterosexual parents have better lives than children that have homosexual parents.” link

I can find 'numerous studies' that say the world is flat?
The Real studies have no problems with gay adoption.

He's entitled to his opinion, but I feel he is dead wrong. "Loving parents" is not necessarily gender specific.

These people are out-there.
When I worked for the Florida Department of Transportation I became very familiar with "studies". Traffic Impact studies, Interchange Justification studies, Economic Impact studies, Cost benefit studies, etc. etc. You name it, we did em. Or we hired a "consultant" to do them.
In every single case the word came down from the politically connected powers that be as to what that study should say. Our job was then to produce a "study" that said that.
Now don't get me wrong here. You are not told this is any specific words. Instead your boss may just say something to the effect that "Senator so and so's office is very interested in this project" That's your que to make sure the study you have been tasked with justify's the project in question. In other cases, where you aren't provided any such direction up front you might find that if your preliminary draft doesn't say what the powers that be want to hear, your boss might call you into his office and suggest to you that you "revisit" or "take another look" at your "methodology and assumptions".
Once you understood those ground rules the job really wasn't that hard. You produce a "study" that says whatever the powers that be want it to say. The alternative being to commit career suicide.
I have no doubt that most if not all government agencies operate in a similar way.

Well.... in my case I suppose I should have remained married to an abusive, violent, cheating man who physically and mentally abused me instead of being in the loving relationship I am currently in.... wow....Ziyi is a mom too.... even if she doesn't say so, she has cared for my kids just as if they were her own.... My kids love and respect her.... It seems so insane to worry about someone's sexual identity and raising children... Why would it matter?? It isn't like we recruit our children to be homosexual. People like that have tiny little minds and more and more are coming out of the woodwork since this idiot business man took control of this country.... The Religious Right have picketed our neighborhoods, they plaster posters in our area.... there is a fringe of lunatics who live close by who make homophobic people look like Mr. Rodgers.... they are insane and even said to "burn out those perverts" not even knowing ANY person or persons who are openly gay??? Just let's run through the area and anyone who "looks or acts gay" will have holy justice place on them...... Really??? seriously?? Sounds like a "witch hunt" to me
well fortunately no hate crimes have been actually carried out but who is to say it won't happen?? This country is being torn apart by feeble minds....

really??? Well that makes no one bit of rational sense.... and seem like propaganda from evangelical right.... I am sorry but, that just isn't real.

The sorry part is most of these people spout all this "research" but as a psychologist, I understand the role of homophobia and it's effect on exacerbating myths and fears.... Right leaning "research" would also tell you that Mexicans are a threat to all white people, that Canadians are evil and our enemies and all gay people are evil and wish to turn children into gay drones. Rational thinking people do not subscribe to such blatant lies but there are many today who believe such garbage.... Like PT Barnum say.... "There's a sucker born every minute" and the Foolish..... Person continues to divide and support such theories.... Maybe time for me to stay in Taiwan? I begin to think so....

I don't think my grandmother, who died the year before I was born, would agree the congressman. Apparently one of her sayings was that all children needed was a warm dry bed and lots of love.

Well.... in my case I suppose I should have remained married to an abusive, violent, cheating man who physically and mentally abused me instead of being in the loving relationship I am currently in.... wow....Ziyi is a mom too.... even if she doesn't say so, she has cared for my kids just as if they were her own.... My kids love and respect her.... It seems so insane to worry about someone's sexual identity and raising children... Why would it matter?? It isn't like we recruit our children to be homosexual. People like that have tiny little minds and more and more are coming out of the woodwork since this idiot business man took control of this country....
