well... that's your choice.. My circumstances are quite different... I don't think you have a right to decide what constitutes pissing away and what doesn't.. It's not your call so shut up... ok? You are right Betty. You have earned your status as one of the bourgeois elite. You can now gaze out your rose colored $20,000 windows at the unwashed masses below and feel good about yourself. I thought you quit. Why did you come back??????

The interior designer just left... and we really clicked!.... she seemed to be able to sense what I wanted and we discussed all the details about the project. Showed me some cabinet colors and countertops.. then she took measurements and did a sketch of my kitchen and bathroom. she is going to do the designs and will be back this Friday to show me what she came up with.. I get to pick out all my stuff too.. Lighting tile, fixtures etc.. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing! Before and after pics please!

Nice Job Louie! That's the way do to it.. Save up... That's what I did.. I won't be financing a single penny of the project Well it ended up costing more than we saved for but it had to be done or the house would have fallen down around us. I did end up with picking all the colors in my head and using little swatches. Old kitchen...this is the complete kitchen. The new kitchen... The house had 10 ft added to it. The old kitchen ended where the sink in the new part begins. Huge difference in making our lives easier. Enjoy your remodel, it will be worth it!

I'm beginning to understand the importance of having a good contractor specializing in Kitchens and bathrooms. I have been assured that as soon as the old cabinets are out and the new ones in, they will rehook up my stove and put in a temporary sink until the countertop and new sink are installed and my new stove arrives.. Same with the bathroom.. as soon as the tile comes down they will install the new toilet.. I have another bathroom, but it's downstairs and a real treck to get to for a middle of the night visit.
Another thing I've learned.. The construction crew assigned to my project is dedicated to my project.. In other words, they will be working at my house everyday until the project is finished. No disappearing for a week.. That's important in finishing within the estimated time period. So Friday, the designer returns with a computer generated layout of my plan, and samples of everything I need to pick out to get started. After that, I will be presented with a complete list of prices.. including labor. At this point I can subtract or add features depending on cost and my budget constraints. Once the price is agreed and contract signed,, the Project Manager along with the designer come to my house to do exact measurements and will order the materials. Then we enter the demolition phase.

I thought you quit. Why did you come back?????? There is no answer. There is no excuse. I broke my word. And a man is only as good as his word. For me there is no path to redemption. I have nothing to look forward to but complete and utter despair.

The process was very trying for us. We had a toilet and shower but no kitchen at all for about a month. I got very creative with my meals on the grill and it worked out. We did it in the summer so most days we were able to be outside while they did the interior work. So when you think you are going to scream...go out to eat and treat yourself. :0

Backsplash... Glass subway tile...
That is my favorite tile for a kitchen. Excellent taste my dear! nkat Thanks.. I picked it out from a picture and my designer sent me an actual sample to see.. The picture doesn't really do it justice.. it's a soft grey.. I don't have a picture of the countertop, but it's white with black and grey swirls.. and it's got a lot of pattern so I had to stay a bit more subdued with the back splash... the cabinets will be white... and the appliances black. A white porcelain sink and a brushed nickel faucet.

I won't... but I was excited about getting the sample of my backsplash so I just had to post it... I THINK it will go perfectly with my countertop..
It's so hard to pick from pictures and tiny samples 4x4 square of a countertop that's going to be large.. along with an Island and a desk top.. That's a lot of counter top.. so I better love it.. My designer and the project manager are coming here a week from tomorrow to do all the measuring and planning.. and I will also get to see the samples again for one last time before the material is ordered... scary..
I'm having second thoughts about the color of the tile around the tub.. The tub, the vanity sink and the toilet are in "bisque" which is a VERY light cream.. almost white.. and I'm concerned that the tile I picked is too light.. so I want to rethink that.. The vanity and medicine cabinet are Cherry wood.. and the vanity top is a cream with gold and brown vein granite... the fixtures are bronze.
These are hard decisions.. because it's a lot of money to spend for something I'm not absolutely in love with.. Once it's ordered... it goes in. . love it or not.

Yes, you want to be sure you are going to love it because this kitchen and bath is for life.
I like black appliances. I'd give anything for an island!

I like black appliances. I'd give anything for an island! I am giving up my kitchen table for the Island.. and it's not going to be a huge Island either.. But it will have storage and that's what I need the most.. There will be seating around the island so it will double as a table.. But we don't have a big family.. it's just Mike and I so it will be fine.. If I do have a few people over, we can use the island, and the peninsula will have an overhand so a few people can sit there.. I don't have a big house.. but we will make do.
