I just have one more remodel, the master bath. I'd like to just sign a check, as long as it's not a whole lot. x<5k$
I'll be painting the exterior wood trim soon, hopefully before I have to jump into Spring grounds keeping.
...after that, maybe a patio cover...be writing a check for that too. ;-)

My late husband was a avid do-it-yourselfer, and I ended up working right along side him.. we owned income property and he (and of course me too) did all the maintenance. All this and me working full time too. I've had it! At age 69.. I'm more than happy to just sign the check. We recently sold some property with acreage I owned in Northwestern Illinois.. that should handle the check problem..

I just get a kick out of you. You are such a Bourgeoisie. Don't be jealous Toby... What would I be jealous of? I have 60K in the credit union. But I'm not about to piss it away on remodeling a perfectly good kitchen and bathroon.

My circumstances are quite different... I don't think you have a right to decide what constitutes pissing away and what doesn't.. It's not your call so shut up... ok?

My brother and wife got a new kitchen and also a hole in the wall through to the dining room for serving. This was about 10 years ago and I think it took about 4 or 5 months. $100K +. They ate out a lot or got takeaways. Looks really good.

We've done kitchen, living/dining, master bedroom, guest room/gym, 1/2 bath, wall and tub tiles in master bath, roofline, new windows. We could use a new roof on house and garage, new tub/sink/toilet in the master bath, new carpet in one guest room (did everything else in it). Everybody hates our hallway carpet and makes fun of it, but I don't really want to replace. The hall is very wide, leading from the front doors, it's multicoloured and doesn't show dirt. It's very sturdy carpet, just faded. When the guys came to install our new carpet in living room and master bedroom they looked at the hall carpet and yelled 'wow, what age is that carpet??'.
Oh, and we could also use new front and back doors. And a conservatory.

Oh, and we could also use new front and back doors. And a conservatory. Here are my thoughts... I have worked hard all my adult life.. raised my kids.. put them through college.. put myself through college.. saved my money and lived frugally.. Now at almost 70.. it's time to reap the rewards.. If that means a new kitchen, and bath.. or $20K windows.. so be it.. You can't take it with you....

I love my house, but I love to travel more than having expensive furniture etc in my house (Ikea) or an expensive brand new car. Our windows were very expensive but we really needed those - the 85 year old ones were rotting - and we needed a new heating system.
We're certainly not taking it with us. We can be frugal or we can be extravagant. All depends on what it is.

We had 19 windows replaced (£21,000 - pounds not dollars) in 2010. We didn't get the windows in the 1/2 bath or the 2 in the laundry room replaced. Sorry we didn't get the bathroom one done. Should have.

19 sounds like a lot of windows, but this set of 5 windows in the living room and 5 in the bedroom count as 10 of the windows.

You have earned your status as one of the bourgeois elite. You can now gaze out your rose colored $20,000 windows at the unwashed masses below and feel good about yourself.
