Well, my cell phone has been slowly dying. We used to have a phone for a lifetime! Now, these "modern marvels of technology" are engineered to die so you have to replace them! My wife and I don't use our phones for much more than calls and texts. Most other 'stuff' is done on laptops or my wife uses her tablet a lot. So... we sure don't need these new $1,000 phones!!!
Did the usual "paralysis through over-analysis" over the past week. Do we stay with the current provider? Or, do we change providers? We've been with AT&T for almost 20 years. Could save about $20/month changing providers. That $240/year would pay for new phones. But... do we roll the dice with another provider just to see charges go up, etc.? Change and we both have to get new phones. Remain with this provider and we can just replace mine.
Went to Target and bought a cheap AT&T prepaid phone. Home. Removed the SIM card from my old phone and slipped in into the new one. Did the wireless data transfer and everything went like clockwork. Took less than 30 minutes for the new phone to have all my contacts, call logs, texts, etc. from the old phone. If we do decide to change providers down the line, I've got less than $100 invested in a pretty capable Samsung phone if I have to toss it.
First frost delay at the course yesterday morning. Didn't get home from golf until almost 1 p.m. By the time we cussed and discussed the phone thing... over and over and over... and went to get one, the day was shot. Didn't have time to get caught up on Forum Games and the "gremlins", there, plotted against me with two pages of games I had to respond to this morning. Planned to sleep in. Had accidently set the alarm on the new phone and couldn't get it shut off! So... up at 5 a.m. getting caught up on TRF. It's a rough life.... :>)

I saw my cardiologist today, had an EKG, BP & weight checks, a physical exam, etc. Discussion with the cardiologist was productive. We agreed I seem to be doing well, and no changes were made to my regimen or medications.
This was the first time I went anywhere on my own since March 5th. I was nervous about travelling by taxi, wearing a mask, etc., but it all went smoothly. Cab drivers here are wearing masks, and will take cash or debit/credit cards. Now I feel more inclined to venture out for a much-needed haircut in the near future.

Still able to play golf most every day. We've had some frost delays, but the weather is holding. 70's today and some 70's next week. We will take that in November. Wife still using Kroger's "Pick List" instead of doing in-store shopping. She has her three or four girlfriends who do get together for coffee a couple times/week. They meet at a local restaurant where "their" table is off in a corner and large enough they can social distance. COVID cases ramping up in our community and beginning to think it's not 'if', it's 'when'. Scary.
Daughter and family over for supper last night as they do most every Friday night for 20 years. That's the only 'close' contact we have. And... there's no hugging, etc. All are very cognizant of need for mask wearing in their work/school lives.
Television political coverage keeps us occupied in addition to reading and my "Forum Games". May need to resort to more Netflix, etc. once the election is over. Spent 4 hours arguing with AT&T re our Direct TV huge increases and plan on cancelling that. Probably will go to Hulu. Hulu Live still has our local stations for close-to-home news.
In other words... "What did you do today"... Continued to lead our boring existence, hoping to stay clear of COVID. Oh... Did shoot my age on the golf course yesterday. 73. One over par. Good day, but only won 50 cents.

Other than baking a bread pudding, nothing significant.

We had a harvest feast and dinner in honor of our ancestors with fresh cooked veggies, apple cider, and soul cakes.

I'm trying to start a new outside project to keep myself busy...painting my metal garage door and front porch post, I've got all the supplies I'll need, yesterday I used masking tape to tape the areas off...just doing this really did me in, now I'm having doubts that I can do this...another case of me biting off more than I can chew. And speaking of chewing, the filling in a tooth that I had done a couple of months ago just fell out, the convid count is way up in this county and I'm very concerned about going back to dentist....

I dug a 90 foot shallow ditch and buried 12/2 outdoor wire in it, from the house to our shed. Hubby wired it up to to fuse panel and to the outlet installed in the shed. Works perfectly. Now, I won't need to use the extension cord anymore to operate things inside or around the shed. Woot! *Checking another project off our to do list*

Isn't retirement supposed to be boring? Nothing to do??? Played 18 yesterday morning. 35 degrees F with strong northwest wind. COLD! Hard work but someone has to do it!! :>) Home for a quick sandwich. To the bank, Target, vet office to drop off plastic bags, and to Home Depot to pick up ordered window blind. Back home in time for phone meeting with lady from local Senior Center, assisting as we went through Plan D for 2021. That done just in time to make appointment at Best Buy Geek Squad for wife's tablet. Sheesh!!
Today, there appears to be heavy frost. Probably only time to play 9 holes when frost clears. Have to be at daughter's house by 1 p.m. to help SIL clean out a sink drain that is plugged. He's renting an electric snake. We have to rod it out every couple of years. (If the daughter and granddaughters would quit pouring grease down the sink drain.....) Need to get that done in time to make a late afternoon appointment at AT&T store.
A couple weeks ago my phone died. Looked around at other plans, but decided to stay with AT&T. We have been with the 20 years. Never under contract. Have always owned our own phones. AT&T store recommended I purchase a "Prepaid AT&T" phone at Walmart, Target, etc. They are quite inexpensive. Simply switch SIM cards and to a 'mobile transfer'. Did that. Bought a really nice Samsung phone for $80. Switched SIM cards. Transferred data. In 30 minutes time the new phone was up and running. Yesterday the wife's phone crashed!!! Picked up another phone just like mine from Target. Home to switch SIM cards and move data. Ouch! Her old phone's SIM card is different and won't work in the new phone. Headed back to AT&T store this afternoon to see if they can activate the new phone and move data.
Somewhere in there I need to install the new blind... and catch up on Forum Games. I relish the time I can be actually "retired"!!! :>)

With frost delay, didn't get off #1 tee until 10:30. Just one other of our regulars and me. We flew! Off the course with 18 holes played at 12:06!! 1 hour, 35 minutes to play 18 holes of golf. NASCAR golf! Home. Grabbed sandwich. Headed to daughter's to help SIL rod their sewer. Ran 50' of snake into the line. I handled the push/pull of the snake while SIL ran the on/off switch. This old body ain't used to that type exercise. Drain worked fine when we got all the snake retracted. Back home and began installation of "her" new blind. Got that started and my screw gun battery died. Thank goodness! Gave me a break. Out to AT&T with wife's new phone at 4:00. Only took about 15 minutes and they had it equipped with new SIM card and everything transferred. Didn't charge us anything. Back home and finished blind installation. Wife made potato soup. Sitting in the recliner, eating the soup, and ready to call it a day.
(Sheesh! So much going on this past couple days, TRF folks will think I'm the return of a past lady/troll who had something happen to her/them every day... now banned!) :>)

For the last week or so it has been "disposing of the leaves" time at my house...I'm trying to stay ahead and round them up with the mower and mulch back onto the yard...but there are so many, seems to be never ending....I also had a trip back to the dentist, had my tooth repaired again...told my kids that I'm staying home and "staying quiet" (as Mom used to say) for the holidays..there has been 35 deaths from COVID in this small rural county, its beyond scary.
