I'm still on Seniors and three other forums, including this one. Two are Australian but both are small. I have been working on SF to open up discussions that might have a political flavour via Speakers Corner in Groups. I'm hoping that civil discussion may evolve and eventually return to the main board. I am Pollyanna. Looks like your thread has been deleted.. Matrix strikes again!! You would be better off getting others to come over here to debate rather than put up with that nonsense.

I see that you are correct but the new thread in Speakers Corner is still alive.

I see that you are correct but the new thread in Speakers Corner is still alive. And you believe that matrix is going to let it exist if it gets political? Where is the "Speakers" corner? I cannot find it.. Can most people?

I see that you are correct but the new thread in Speakers Corner is still alive. And you believe that matrix is going to let it exist if it gets political? Where is the "Speakers" corner? I cannot find it.. Can most people? If you look at the top of the main page, you will see “community”, and that opens up to groups, photo albums, and the members list. Under the groups section, there are several different groups, all started by different members of SF. I do believe that Matrix will let discussion of politics be allowed in the groups setting. From there, it is not visible in the main part of the group, and most newcomers do not even know that groups exist; so regardless of what is being discussed there, it should not affect people who just want “light and fluffy” types of threads. Also, Warri , although very left leaning, is also absolutely fair-minded, and she never, ever ridicules or name-calls, and is not allowing that kind of behavior in the Speaker’s Corner. As long as people are actually discussing the issue, and not insulting other posters, or their beliefs, then I think that there is no reason why politics can’t be discussed there. As the “owner” of the group, Warri can delete any offensive posts, and if posters continue to be offensive, then she can simply remove them from the group of necessary, and people who actually want to have a discussion as opposed to a fight, can do so.

So Warrigal does have quasi-admin powers. I once nominated Wari to be a mod/admin there, which she gracefully declined. That forum would have benefited, too bad.

NO, the groups are different from having admin powers, tnthomas. Anyone can start a group about almost any topic, and then, as the original founder of the group, you are responsible for deciding what content you allow, or what people you allow in to the group. It is similar to a Facebook group , and it can be public or private, or moderated. If the group is public, anyone can read the posts and join the group just by clicking the “join” link. If the group is moderated, then you have to be approved by the group owner to join; but anyone can read the messages. If the group is private, then you have to be approved as a member to post or to read the messages. Regardless of which setting a group is, the owner/moderator can delete any posts they think are inappropriate, and they can also ban any posters they think are not following the rules set for the group. So, as the owner/moderator of two groups on SF, Warri can moderate as she pleases, and allow whatever topic she approves of; but she has no moderation powers as far as the whole SF forum is concerned.

Interestingly, I have never refused anyone who wanted to join a group and have never had to intervene because there has been no argy bargy even though the occasional poster seemed to have some rather weird ideas, especially in the Spirituality group. As long as there is no direct or indirect disrespect of other posters, all points of view are welcome. Intellectual growth comes from discourse, not found in echo chambers.

On the same day that you go to meet your Maker if your wife catches you. She keeps telling me that after 51 years she doesn't want to train another one. I take that as a "free pass" to be as ornery as I can!!

There! Is that enough to have you call off Ms. Allred???? PLEASE!!!!

A friend of mine said that when he turned 40 he told his wife he was trading her in for two 20 yr. olds. Her reply: "honey, you're not wired for 220".
