If you can't post about anything that could be considered political, like Puerto Rico's situation, healthcare reform, immigration, and so on and so on, there really isn't much left you CAN post about. I was very blessed to just have some wet carpet in my living room. no standing water. I live in a condo complex and the office had the exact same problem. The manager was so kind to send the folks to my place to fix mine also. The used the extra padding etc to fix mine. Did not have to replace carpet. They would not let me pay them but I gave gift cards to the 2 maintenance guys as they did most of the work. It was a real blessing. Thanks for asking. Our complex has never flooded but we could not handle that much rain at one time.

I've managed to avoid being booted to date but really, I am so thoroughly bored with the discussion topics on offer now. I cannot believe that to avoid criticism of Donald Trump all discussion of any political current affairs is off limits.
Never mind, Australian politics is fascinating right now so I am getting my daily fix. Four senators and one member of the House of reps have been disqualified on constitutional grounds. One of them is the Deputy Prime Minister and his expulsion is most problematic for the government. Would any of these shenanigans be of interest here? It would involve a lot of effort on my part to explain it all.

Discussing politics rapidly turns into bickering about politics, then it just is an ego driven pissing contest, with no real chance at solving the world's problems. Yea, I enjoyed tossing molotov cocktails into the crowds of the mindless Trump worshipers there. In the end it didn't change much. |

I saw the love child's post, how she could support Trump when her financial well-being is what the Republican's intend to take away, with the tax 'reform'. ??? It is increasingly difficult to "discuss" politics. Seems the political opinions/ideologies are such that discussions quickly turn into arguments. And, once the argument begins all sense of sensibility can disappear into a fog. I really enjoy the opportunity to discuss politics with people with a myriad of ideas. But...
There are a dozen or more discussion boards out there with political forums. From what I have experienced, few allow/enjoy good discourse. They seem to be biased towards one side of the spectrum or the other. The forum that is the topic that originally initiated this thread at one time allowed/saw excellent discussions from both sides of the aisle. That changed as those on the right began complaining if their toes were stepped on by a post the disagreed with. The moderators/owners were right leaning and soon began putting their thumbs on non-right posts. That evolved into total elimination of the political forum on that board.
Another "senior" board I used to post on was extremely right leaning and no discussion was permitted that did not agree with that political ideology. There is ONE that I do tune in to from time to time that does allow both sides to express their STRONG opinions. It gets awfully nasty. The moderators/owners allow the knock down, drag out arguments to proceed as long as there are no personal threats. I can read/participate for a short while and then have to take a break. But, it is invigorating if you can leave your sensitivity and thin skin behind.
This board certainly leans to the left. Yet, I have not witnessed any denigrating of a person posting a differing opinion. Good people here. Caring people here. Has developed into somewhat a "family" here.
If everyone discussing politics would simply do so in a "professional" manner, backing up their discussions with facts it would be simpler. But, we are benefitting from a President and other elected officials whose use of facts is non-existent. So, folks seem to be influenced by the words they hear from the media they choose to read/listen to. If one listens to Fox News all day... If one listens to MSNBC all day... your opinions can well be formed by what you hear. If we can ever get past this presidency and, as a Country, begin to renew the focus on facts and the desire to build instead of tear down... maybe there is some hope.
So often, however, I am reminded how accurate the saying is... "It is difficult to win an argument with a very intelligent person. It is impossible to win an argument with a stupid person."
