But not in our country, everywhere else. Take Central America and we are getting those kids. I say if you made um, you take care of them.

The world needs to step up and help their own. Any monetary contributions should be given to the people directly not lining the crook’s pockets. This is all getting ridiculous, my grandparents never got any financial help coming here legally.
BTW, why is the second audio in Spanish, what about the other languages? Not all immigrants speak Spanish.

Nkat Just because your grandparents didn't get help doesn't mean we shouldn't help people today. Where Spanish is concerned, it's the second most spoken language in the US. I'm from Wisconsin. Our second most spoken language is Hmong, but I wouldn't expect anyone to post an audio in Hmong...not that it's a bad idea, but how many different languages are spoken in this country...and how many different audio tracks should be posted? We also have a lot of Mexican people in Wisconsin.

NotBob, our country is so in debt., where is all this money coming from to help others?
They can post second audios of as many languages as it takes. Better yet learn to speak English, I know Italians who have been here many years and can not speak English.
I have no problem with people coming here legally. This is not fair to people waiting legally to come in.

Better yet learn to speak English, I know Italians who have been here many years and can not speak English. I have no problem with people coming here legally. This is not fair to people waiting legally to come in. Nkat Where US debt is concerned, the rich have been manipulating the system going back to at least Reagan. Throw Citizens United on top of the mess and we have a government dominated and controlled by some of the wealthiest people in the world. "Trickle-down" is a hoax. The people who own and control much of our government paid for political campaigns that resulted in puppets being elected. Eighty-five percent of elections are won by candidates with the most money. That says nothing about the same rich people paying lobbyists to "entice" politicians to "hold the line." In 1965, CEO to worker pay was about 20:1. By 1985, it was around 50:1. Today, it's over 300:1. www.theguardian.com/business/2018/aug/16/ceo-versus-worker-wage-american-companies-pay-gap-study-2018While taking all the fruit from our labor, and not allowing us to share in the rewards, the super-rich have greatly reduced their tax burden and reduced or eliminated costly regulations designed to keep workers and consumers safe. When the super-rich pay less in taxes and pay less to comply to regulations, they pocket the money, leaving the burden of supporting the needs of society on workers. Workers alone can't sustain the needs of society. That's why we have crumbling infrastructure, failing schools, are behind in climate-change solutions, etc. The rich don't want to pay for it. With that in mind, it should be obvious where the money should come from. Bernie Sanders and a handful of others say we must tax the rich if we are to maintain "leader" status. I agree. The wealthy have destroyed the system that made the US the envy of the world in the 50s and 60s and elevated us to "leader" status. We are nowhere near the top when it comes to most things anymore and we continue on a downward slide. As far as language is concerned, most of the people who can't speak English work and pay taxes. They have found ways to function in our society. I am someone who would have a difficult time trying to learn another language. I can't imagine what immigrants go through when trying to survive in any foreign country. When they are productive citizens and contribute to our tax base (which is more than what a lot of corporations and rich people do), I don't mind trying to help them any way we can. Under Trump, we turned away people who came here legally to seek asylum. Our laws specifically allow people to do that. Trump distorted the situation to favor his agenda against immigrants and to garner support for his border wall. Immigration (and language) has been a "tool" used by the Right for the purpose of dividing us. They've used lots of "tools" like abortion, LGBTQ issues, guns, policing, immigration, and yes, even whether or not speaking English should be the national standard. While we argue amongst ourselves about social issues, a large percentage of us pay no attention to the fact that the rich are robbing the piggy bank. Divide and conquer. In my opinion, all these social issues seem moot when compared to the fact that CEOs are making 300 times what average workers make. They and the corporations they own pay comparatively little to provide for a vibrant society. Any way you cut it, it's all about the money.

NotBob, my grandparents learned English, didn’t yours? If you want to be part of a country learn the language. I am sure if you migrated to another country, you would be able to learn the language. I sure would try.
Nkat.
Do not forget that all these people coming in, are coming during a pandemic. We have enough trouble with the USA citizens, refusing to get the vaccines.

And this is the problem. It is NOT new, but it's getting worse and worse BECAUSE of all the modern emphasis on 'multiculturalism' and 'diversity.' Instead of encouraging immigrants to become and be Americans, everybody's pressured to 'practice their own cultures' and 'learn about Differences.' Whomever came up with this idea should consider it another experiment that failed- in every possible way. Language is only a part of it- but it's an important part.

There is truth is what you say, but it is our differences we should be celebrating. Thank goodness we're not all the same. Go into "Chinatown" in any large city and you'll find numerous people who struggle with English...if they can speak it at all. Most of us will never experience Chinese culture first hand, but we can get a sampling of it through them. It's not "them vs us." They ARE us. They are exactly what this country is about. There is no constitutional mandate for a standardized language and in fact, it wasn't even English speaking people who first settled here. That says nothing about Native American languages.

NotBob, the Native Americans did not establish the United States. All people here need to learn a central language. English should be made our official language. All can still do their customs but everyone needs to communicate with one another in a country. We are the United States not the United Nations.
