As an RN.. and hubby a Respiratory Therapist we are used to dealing with pathogens in a clinical setting. We have both cared for patients with active tuberculosis, SARS, Meningitis, and other assorted viral and bacterial illnesses. BUT.. we knew what we were dealing with and it's means of transmission. We were also given the equipment needed to protect ourselves. This feels different.. There are so many rumors and unknowns. The Trump administration is incompetent and I'm sure are not telling us everything. They have put a gag order on the few remaining experts at the CDC.. That agency has been hollowed out and is operating on a skeleton crew.
Today we did what we normally would not do.. We went out and purchased two HEPA filter respirator masks and a box of fitted P95 masks.. we also replenished our supply of latex gloves. Hoping against hope we won't have to use them. But let's be honest... we don't know where this is going or how bad it will get. Has anyone else taken similar precautions? We are certainly in concerning times... and our leaders are more concerned with the stock market reaction than the health of their citizens..

I've been reading about it and another way to protect yourself should this reach pandemic proportions is to isolate yourself from the community as much as possible.. in other words.. stay home. Have at least a two weeks supply of food and prescription medications. As well as anti-fever meds such as ibuprofen or Tylenol. If you become ill with cold or flu like symptoms do NOT go to the ER or doctor as you could spread the virus.. Of course, if you are unable to breathe, you would have to go to ER, but put on a mask so as not to infect others. All good advise.

My friend was just here and we were discussing this issue. And I'm not in a panic, he has a mask from the work he does in the flooring industry and he's upping his antioxidants as am I and for me taking 2-3K Vit C daily now, and of course keep my Oscillo handy at any signs of any flu. I hear SO MANY comments on all this....I try not to hear too much.
On going out to places, I have not been in that place for some time since my knee issue.

I'm a "little" OCD about cross contamination and airborne pathogens, having worked in detention and corrections institutions. Always have N95 masks, gloves,OTC meds and cleaning supplies.

I'm a "little" OCD about cross contamination and airborne pathogens, having worked in detention and corrections institutions. Always have N95 masks, gloves,OTC meds and cleaning supplies. The most effective and least expensive disinfectant is common household bleach. A 10% bleach solution will kill just about anything.. I would even consider washing fruits and vegetables in it and of course rinsing thoroughly.. the chlorine will dissipate. We deal with chlorine all the time in spas and public swimming pools.

Since I visit the nursing home quite a bit and am at the ER often with Hubby, ....I wash my hands, I wash my clothes, I eat healthy, exercise, get fresh air. Our food is stocked we live in a remote area. We are not panicking at all.
I have masks for cleaning the shed out as the dust particles and bird droppings are everywhere, so ... we have a large supply always on hand. My biggest fear is that my husband will catch this...well any respiratory illness could be fatal for him.
He is a bit nervous about going to large clinics right now.

I just arrived home from Thailand. Went through major airports. Used much more hand gel than normal and as usual I wipe off the seat tray on the plane with an antibacterial wipe. No mask. Saw plenty of people wearing those cheap masks which are useless.

I don't consider giving thought to being prepared to be panicking. I consider it common sense.. If it wasn't.. why are there so many sayings? "Always Be Prepared" (scouting motto)… "Better safe than sorry".... "Prepare for the worst, Hope for the Best" So we have bought N95 masks and we have a few boxes of gloves. We have stocked up on a few essentials should there be a need to self isolate.. like paper goods, some extra nonperishable foods.. and of course we can't forget our pets.. so cat and dog food. I'm feeling pretty good about our preparations..

They say have at least 2 weeks of nonperishable foods.. I've got a freezer full of meat and plenty of other stuff.. we will be ok
