She crosses her fingers and crosses her toes
Dancing and shimmying, away
formerlyme goes.
The rhyme she presents is golden, I must say
And I'm so glad she came along, this game to play!
At the fine competition, here, I will not sneeze!
These talented folks come running like a mouse to his cheese.
Of course, it is I who on the trap has placed the bait.
They've tried to snatch the cheese, but they are really too late!
Those "mice" that come running to join the competition, the foray
Would really be better served to turn tail and run away.
They cannot win against ME... the greatest of all time!
Sshhh! Don't tell them, though, we want them to rhyme.
We get mice and pack rats in the cart sheds at the golf course where I play.
It is amazing the damage these rodents can do in a single day!
One of our lady members left her golf shoes in her cart shed... as most of us do.
When she returned the next day there was not a lace left in either shoe!
Yes, I saw it with my own eyes as she asked us to come look at her cart space.
The shoes sat there where she left them, with no sign of either shoe lace.
Well, the lady was upset and for our assistance she did implore.
No shoe had a lace, pieces of each were seen here and there on the floor.
There was not a mark, not one iota of damage to either shoe as they sat on the shelves.
One would have thought the shoelaces were removed by, maybe, some elves.
How a pack rat could remove the shoelaces from each shoe, without damaging an eyelet one
Was amazing in our minds, though the lady did not think it was fun!
Her shoes were not damaged, all they needed were new laces... a pair
But, she just stood there at her shoes she did stare.
She told us she would not touch them, since a rat had had his mouth where her feet would be
And said to make it right was the responsibility of someone... not she!
I picked up the shoes and told her we would take care of her plight
And asked that she give me the chance to fix it overnight.
New laces were purchased and installed to where they looked new
I sprayed the shoes down with disinfectant... Lysol... too.
The lady seemed pleased when I returned her shoes the next day.
She put them on and a round of golf she did play.
That is a true story, you can believe it or not... I don't care
We've made sure, since, to see all sheds have rat poison there.
Now, those pack rats can destroy shoe laces and eat holes in the shed walls.
We, out on the course, have found pack rat nests where they have collected lost golf balls.
These rats are seldom seen, we know they are there by the damage they cause
It is amazing what they can do with their teeth and their claws.
Our golf course is a mile or so outside of our town, affording a quite rural view.
It is amazing the wildlife we see almost daily as we play a round of golf... or two.
We've seen coyotes and beavers and foxes... may kinds of snakes and so many deer.
The birds... flocks of geese, wild turkeys, and a family of eagles soaring near.
It is fantastic that we who enjoy a game of golf can see fit to share our land with bird and beast
Of course, we must understand they are allowing us to share their land, at the least.
Humans and animals are so different, we don't speak the same language or look like each other
Yet we can co-exist and really get along, going about each of our business with out being a bother.
Why can't people get along like the example set by humans, animals, and fowl, and reptiles
Instead of, seemingly, being resistant to having kind words for others and bringing them smiles?
Of course, as the poets come out of the woodwork to join this competition... running to the trap I have set
They will be so disappointed as the trap snaps closed and they see 2old is the last... even yet!
