"Francis is so convinced that Satan is ultimately to blame for both the sexual abuse scandals and the divisions within the Church that he has enlisted the aid of spiritual big gun - St. Michael the Archangel. Michael is mentioned several times in the Bible as the leader of the angels who ousted Lucifer, the fallen angel, from paradise."
This is the ultimate in passing the buck. "The devil did it!"

I was taught that Satan is the cause of all evil in the world.

What a crock for the Pope to pass the buck of responsibility for evil wrongdoings within his church to some 'devil'. Shame on him! Where are the pleas to 'Saint' Michael for healing those victimized by his church?
I consider the devil and angels no more real than Santa Claus or The Easter Bunny. No disrespect to ordinary members of the Catholic faith, but this church has always been about power, and done more harm than good over many centuries.

If there is a God then there is an antiGod! nkat I suppose that depends on whether a person believes there is a God. I tend to believe the yin and yang (in this case) are within each person, being the desire and motivation to do either good or evil. It's all about conscience and empathy!

St. Solange is the patron Saint of rape victims. St Michael is a warrior!

NKat ~ I respect your belief in the Catholic church but, as you know,my experience was much different than yours. Roman Catholics scare their believers. The devil is bad, God is vengeful, blah, blah, blah. The Catholics did a number on me that affected my whole life. I'm glad to be away from it. The Pope is a wimp. He could have improved the church, but he chose to blame its problems on the

Ruby I am not even a practicing Catholic but the beliefs are ingrained in me. I do believe that Satan is real, I have seen enough horror movies to back that up!

The Pope sure did wimp out on this one. I'm not surprised.
It's much easier to call on, or pray to other people, gods, angels, spirits, goddesses, or ghosts than to actually DO something. To act instead of pray. It doesn't take much effort or time to bow your head and ask a faceless entity to fix a problem. If the problem still exists it's not the fault of the entity it's the fault of another entity, a bad entity, and there's not much you can do about that. So, basically what you did was bow your head, say a few words out loud, or in your mind, and you're done. No action required. I'm sorry but IMHO that's one big cop out. I've seen enough horror in the real world to believe that people are evil all on their own. No devil required.

People choose to be evil even though they think they are not. There are many reasons for evil. With the current Republican leaders, they believe their political party is the reason for doing almost anything. I will also throw big money in there as a reason to do evil. (A war is a big money-maker for many in politics.)
Some adults have no moral compass like #45. They are not likely to change. Alcohol and drugs and religious beliefs cause some people to be evil. I think many people have an evil demeanor. They are raised that way or have a real or imagined grudge to settle.
Maybe others have a better explanation of evil. ????

Maybe others have a better explanation of evil. ???? All the examples you gave work for me, RubyK. lol. NKat's question, "what makes people evil?" sounds as if she believes all people are naturally good and something comes along and turns them into evil people. I don't buy it. As I said, I believe there are good people and evil people in the world. We deceive ourselves when we say all people are good. Evil people know they're evil they just don't care. Especially when they're in a place of power and perhaps honor, like the church or the government. The newest scum bag to sit on the Court knows what he did was wrong he simply doesn't care. Therefore he's, imo, an evil man. So now there's two evil men sitting there. The Court is a joke just like the rest of the country. America is no longer a beacon of Light. She's a sewer of sludge and grime. Not good but evil. The same goes for the pope. Evil. This guy is the most powerful man in the Catholic church and the only solution he comes up with is to pray? No action? At all? Hell, I'll pray too and I'll bet I'll get the same answer. Silence!
