Today I figure was probably our last trip to the grocery store for this month. I've kept a record of how much we spent during September and it stands at $618. This included no frills. Chicken, Hamburger, Fish, no rib eyes, no T-bones, no steaks whatsoever.
According to this source the average for a family of two is $625 a month, so I guess we are about average.

It is just dh and I with 2 cats. I have no idea what we spend because 2 to 3 days a week I cook for 6 people since I babysit the grands. Dd and I chip in. Taking down ribs for the 6 of us today. We do have steaks for the 2 of us. We also eat out at times.

Toby ~ Looks like you are a typical family. Meat is so expensive that I buy cheap cuts or none at all. Produce keeps going up and up. The price of fruit is so high that I can't afford to buy it... and I love fresh fruit.

Yes, the price of groceries gets higher and higher on an alarming rate and thanks to tariffs, it will get worse, so don't expect any relief any time in the near future. We just have to adjust our menus continuously. I'm not that crazy about meat anyway except for the more expensive cuts, so NO MEAT FOR ME most of the time as I'm not that good with cooking it anyway. Love seafood more, but those prices have been outrageous for some time, so eat it maybe once a week. Still get my fruits and veggies, mostly fresh but frozen too. I to do eat out sometimes, at least then, I don't have to worry about ruining the cut of meat I buy.
I did make a nice sirloin stir fry the other day though.

I have a family of 4 (really 5 for meals b/c my oldest daughter's boyfriend is almost always here for meals) and we probably only spend about $400-$450 per month for groceries... ...and always have more than enough to eat in this house (they joke and say I tend to cook for an army). 2 things though... All meals are vegeterian & I have my own garden. Also, I tend to make things from scratch (bread, pastry, muffins, etc.) instead of buying pre-made.

I tend to base my meals on what is on sale. Unfortunately the fish that I like is shrimp or scallops. Having two long large koi kind of turns me off from eating white fish! nkat

Just the two of us here, but not sure what my food bills are. I'll have to look. We eat very little beef these days. Get chicken and fish at Costco, taking advantage of our freezer in the garage. Buy quite a bit at Trader Joe's. Does wine count as groceries? Asking for a friend.....

I don't keep track but I'd say I spend between £400-500 a month at the supermarket - not just food of course. We don't buy much meat unless we have guests - although my lunches often include a small amount of chicken or turkey breast or liver pate.
No pets and it's just husband and me.
I always notice how high food prices are when I visit the US and shop with my sister, especially fruit and veg.

One area where we never skimp is on fresh fruit/berries. On a recent Costco trip my purchases included raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and tomatoes. Before long we'll be getting boxes of Navel oranges. Just got some fresh haddock from them and made it last night for dinner. Delicious! Their organic chicken is very good, and we've recently tried their organic ground turkey breast.

I put berries in my porridge or in my plain yogurt, and husband eats a big bowl of fruit every morning. My sister is a big Costco shopper, but the only one anywhere near us is nearly a 1 1/2 hour trip one way including the ferry and would cost more to go than we'd save in the store.

Ah, then I'll tell "him" to put it under discretionary spending.

I haven't bought beef in I don't know how long.. It has just gotten so expensive it has priced itself off my menu. I do eat chicken or fish, but not so much fish anymore that that has gotten outrageously expensive, too. I don't eat meat or poultry or fish every day though -- I'm about half vegetarian, I guess, and I do all my cooking from scratch, Prices of just about everything have gone up here recently, and I don't see that getting any better.

Its just Bella and me to buy for....I spend a lot on food for Bella and I do not skimp on groceries for myself, I try to buy fresh fruit and veggies, but find a lot of waste when I do. So many are packaged in big quantities.
