Remember the diciples left their wives and families to follow Jesus, they did not bring their families to spread the Word. Maybe. Maybe not. There are many other books of the Bible that have never been printed. Also, there are many other religions that have ministers and preachers that "go into the world" and still are family men and women. What tnthomas wrote is probably correct. It probably has to do with money. My dh said I am not supporting no wife and kids of a priest. What a true Christian! Nkat

Last time I looked...taxes don't support the church. Any contributions are voluntary. The Church kept our history and culture alive during the dark ages. It has been both a curse and a blessing. As I see it, it has outlived it's mission...logic and reason should prevail in the age of Aquarius.

In some countries "the church" is supported by taxpayers, but only where there is a state religion.
In Australia government subsidies for child care, hospitals and schools go equally to all providers whether faith based, secular not for profit, or commercial.
Congregations must provide the minister/priest's stipend and living quarters. Voluntary donations to the collection plate are not generally tax deductable. The exceptions would include donations for something like disaster relief funds that are government approved. Examples would be flood, drought and bushfire relief at home and cyclone aid for Pacific countries.

We support the Church through our offerings every Sunday not through our taxes. my dh is a practicing Catholic. nkat
