But I guess he has announced that he is Pansexual.. I have no idea what that means. The prefix "pan" means all inclusive... ok.. I get that.. but I was under the impression there were only two sexes.. male and female... I understand that there are many ways of identifying with a particular sex....or not... and many sorts of sexual orientations... but I'm not clear on the new term.. Can't a person be only BI-sexual, Homosexual, or Heterosexual.... Shouldn't the correct term be Pangender? Got into a discussion about this today.. and I guess I'm all hateful, and unwilling to learn and also a stupid old lady…. lol!! People are so funny on FB.. So I come here to ask a serious question.. because I really don't know.

Psychologically, the definition is omnisexuality, it the sexual, romantic or emotional attraction towards people regardless of their sex or the gender identity. Pansexual people may refer to themselves as gender-blind, and feel that gender and sex are not determining factors in their romantic or sexual attraction to others. Labels often compartmentalize people into category.... I happen to be lesbian as it defines my attraction to female.... but often pan-sexual can have romantic feeling towards same sex or to transgender individuals or have feelings towards opposite sex.... they truly just no place any category in their preferences.

Well, I think that the article's writer is "splitting hairs" to try and make pansexuality distinctly different in some way to bi-sexuality.
From the article: "All-inclusive"...O.K., biologically there are still only 2 genders- male & female. Some people might be "transgender" but that transition still involves the 2 basic biological genders.

ok.. not sure why but I've been pondering possibilities.. Suppose you are a male and attracted to both male and females.. as well as male transgenders and female transgenders... still only 2 visible sexes.. BUT.. two more possibilities.. two more gender identifications... Therefore.. pangender would be the appropriate term. Not pansexual.

QS, you discussed this on FB? I don't even mention the weather, there are billions of trolls just waiting to say something negative to a stranger.
I think that as part of FB's "security settings" (haha) you can make your posts visible only to people on your Friends list. Of course if you're talking politics that's no guarantee that some clown won't ambush you. But, at least then you'll know which are real friens, and who are the clowns...

Being a pansexual or bi-sexual are not "genders" per se, more like points of preference. The "identity" aspect is an individual choice, which is fine, but as far as human sexual biology is concerned, there are: females...and males. |
