Good morning to all- Well, I see on the news that the governor of Texas has a solution to the mass killings of students by guns.
Make teachers carry guns! That's right, let the teachers shoulder the burden of direct response to deadly force with deadly force. After all, teachers are already on site, and they are being wildly overpaid for what they do, so let teachers carry arms to protect the students while in class. Makes perfect sense, right?
Only an idiot with no concept of what schools are like and how things are managed in schools would come up with such a simple, totally wrong, and ultimately deadly idea. The answer to guns in schools is not more guns in schools.
And anyway, when this idiotic idea doesn't work, and when more people are killed in school, who will get the blame? That's right, those worthless teachers who just didn't/couldn't/wouldn't perform this minor little additional task of providing armed response to threats.
I am sick of worthless, bought and paid for politicians who deflect responsibility when it comes to making hard decisions and taking corrective action onto others. The solution to guns in school is not more guns in school- at least, not guns carried by teachers. Trained and equipped police officers- yes. I have no problem with this. I worked well with the armed police officers who served as part of the staff at high schools I worked at.
But requiring teachers to be armed and ready to respond to a shooter on campus situation- ridiculous.
Teachers' first duties are to their students. Teachers must account for each child, make sure all students are in place and sheltering properly, and making sure that all entrances are secure and locked. It seems to me it would be hard to do all of this while exchanging fire with an intruder.
Requiring teachers to be armed while in class is an idea so bad it doesn't bear consideration. That's probably why they will do just that thing in Texas.
Good day to all- Ed

CBS NEWS February 22, 2018, 7:37 PM What it's like for one teacher who already carries a gun www.cbsnews.com/news/what-its-like-for-one-teacher-who-already-carries-a-gun/part of the link.... In the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, there's a debate growing about what to do to protect students from shootings. President Trump said he's interested in arming teachers and other school personnel -- an idea backed by the National Rifle Association. At least four states are considering legislation that would allow educators to carry a concealed firearm in schools. Eight states already do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Eight states already do" If trained and if they want teachers and custodians should carry guns...its one solution ....if people know that their are teachers and custodians in our schools armed they would be less likely to come into our schools and kill ...its one of many solutions... think about it ...have a open mind..please!

Texas....where guns out number people and the Governor's reelection campaign is having a drawing for a shotgun, where young boys have their picture in the local paper holding their gun with their trophy kill.
I read this morning that there is a question that some of the victims in the last school may have been shot by crossfire of the security/police...not surprising at all.
I think the only way there will ever be strict gun control is through the ballot box.

Good morning to all- Oldmontana- With all due respect, having teachers carry guns in class is NOT a solution. It is a no-response response to a very difficult situation. Most people who come into schools to kill are fully aware that they will be killed themselves. These people who come to school to kill do so because they know they will get attention, and they will be famous- in a perverted, sick, twisted way- for just a little while. These school killers are people who are so angry, so unhappy, so ill that in their opinion, there are no consequences from their actions. Having so many guns so easy to obtain- legally or not- makes these sick people so very dangerous. Crazy people we will always have. Crazy people with guns we don't have to accept. Obtaining and keeping firearms should be a very controlled and limited process. NOT EVERONE HAS NEED OR RIGHT TO ALL FIREARMS. There now, I've said it. THE NRA be damned. The Second Amendment has room for controls and restrictions to be added and put into law.
But no, with respect, having teachers carry arms in class is not a solution. It is a BS idea to put more pressure on public school teachers, and to remove responsibility from politicians who don't have the balls to make laws to fix this problem.
There are too many damned guns in the US.
Good day to all- Ed

It is high time the tax collectors get their brains out of their asses and do what needs to be done plus the law needs to be upgraded. First,,, put metal detectors in every entrance in schools with guards. Also, if kid gets hold of a parents gun and uses it, bring charges to the gun owner, and finally teach once and for all,,, Lock the guns up as well as the ammo. There is no excuse for stupidity.
I wish I knew what was wrong with society these days. Back in my day, I don't ever remember hearing of any school shootings. Back in the day, a score was settled off school grounds via opening a can of whoop a$$, not pulling out a gun.

My apologies to any residents of Texas here, but the state seems to have had a string of idiots for governor in recent times. It is high time the tax collectors get their brains out of their asses and do what needs to be done plus the law needs to be upgraded. Also, if kid gets hold of a parents gun and uses it, bring charges to the gun owner, and finally teach once and for all,,, Lock the guns up as well as the ammo. There is no excuse for stupidity. Back in the day, a score was settled off school grounds via opening a can of whoop a$$, not pulling out a gun. The firearms laws here in California are the most strict in the country, and sometimes the state legislature(those liberals in the northern part of the state) get on binge of gun control laws that any totalitarian regime would admire. But, there are laws on the books that make sense: 1. DOJ background check 2. 10 day wait to take possession of purchased firearm 3. Firearm safety class 4. Mandatory Trigger lock + gun safe . 5. Requirement that firearms be inaccessible to minors(under 18). These laws just make sense.

Just arm everybody, that way we can have the shootout at the Okay Corral. I think these students should take care of themselves. This way the NRA can sell more guns and get new members. Just make sure the students have bigger guns then anyone who could come in and harm them! One of their courses can be target practice!

The murderer who just killed 10 in Texas has journalized that he wanted to kill students until he himself was also killed. Suicide by police... after killing innocents. After he saw the gore and agony he reigned on the students, he chickened out on the suicide part of the bargain. This is not the first one to kill innocents until they are shot down. So, this nightmare promoted by the NRA and swallowed by their minions that killers won't kill kids if they know teachers are armed is hogwash!!!! This kid may have been shot dead before he killed 10. Or, the rain of bullets from well meaning teachers could have taken another dozen innocent lives.
This kid's father needs jailed for life. Firearms need to be kept from the hands of the mentally ill. (Trump rescinded the executive order from the most recent President that was beginning to do just that.)
The incoming President of the NRA was indicted on 16 felony accounts and initially found convicted of 3. He was granted limited immunity for his testimony against others in the Iran-Contra affair. You break federal laws having to do with selling arms to fund rebels in other countries and you get to promote gun sales to anyone who can walk and breathe... not necessarily at the same time.

I was a member of the NRA about 50 years ago..and dropped my membership about 45 years ago. Today I do not agree with many things they want but the NRA is promoting their agenda just like an political party or business group does. I see nothing wrong with shooting sports..FYI.. Shooting sports have been included at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics, except at the 1904 and 1928 games.
