I'd like to see immigrants come in the legal way wanting to assimilate into the melting pot and become citizens. That's what most people want. If we just had people come in and become citizens we would not have the problem in the future we have today with all the dreamers. This should not be a political issue like most on this board are trying to make it.

I'd like to see immigrants come in the legal way wanting to assimilate into the melting pot and become citizens. That's what most people want. If we just had people come in and become citizens we would not have the problem in the future we have today with all the dreamers. This should not be a political issue like most on this board are trying to make it. The "political issue" is due to our politicians, not the people on this board. If the GOP would fund an immigration process where people could move through the system in a reasonable amount of time, we would solve this in a heartbeat. Today, it can take years for that process to play out. Immigrants here on work visas or student visas don't even apply for citizenship due to the length of time it takes to go through the process. We want the immigrants to hold jobs and be productive members of society. Yet, the path to citizenship takes hours and hours away from a job. The GOP base does not want the system be an easy one. If immigrants could gain citizenship and become taxpayers, then the businesses who employ them under the table would not have day workers sitting on street corners who will work for peanuts. Provide a 180 day pass to those coming across the border. Have the citizenship process from start to finish take between 90 and 120 days. A new citizen is handed a "probationary period" with his/her citizenship papers. If in the first 3 years he/she is convicted of a felony, his/her citizenship is renounced and they are deported. Any person who fails to fulfill the citizenship requirements in those 180 days or is convicted of a felony in the first 3 years can never apply for citizenship again. That puts an exclamation point on the immigrant to do their part in the allotted time and to keep their nose clean. IOW, do what is necessary to obtain citizenship and become/remain a good citizen.

Sounds like you want a open border...giving a 180 pass to people coming across the border...thousands would flood the boarder....unbelievable to understand how that would work.
We have a quota system and I think that is and has been the way we need to go.
The system is what it is and to blame the GOP is telling.
