In light of the recent news of the breach of data to 50 million FB users by Trumps advertising firm Cambridge Analytica, who thinks they will delete their FB account.. I've been mulling it over and decided not to.. What is important to me on FB..? Keeping contact with friends and family.. and interesting articles, recipes, political posts... etc.. and I don't want to give it up.
Realistically, I'm not sure I was a target as most of my posts were anti-Trump.. targeting me with anti-Clinton ads would have been a waste of time... I wouldn't have read them anyway.. And what information do I have about myself on FB.. or on my computer for that matter.. I have always and will continue to REFUSE to do any online banking. My financial and banking information is NOT on my computer.. Neither is my credit card info as I will not buy things online for that reason. So they know what city I am in... the know where I went to highschool... they know what my occupation is.. or was.. They know what products and services I have googled recently.. Seems they are obsessed with showing me bar stools as I have been looking at them for my new kitchen island.. heck I get a new bar stool picture 5 times a day.. and what do I care? maybe I just may find the perfect bar stool..
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I just finished watching this very scary video from PBS.If you watch the entire video you will learn that it doesn't really matter if you are on FB or not. Any site you go to which has the F icon for sharing is tracking your data. Doesn't matter if you are on FB or not. Also your PM's are not private. They are targeted for advertising as well.
However, I enjoy FB and I will not quit.

I probably will not delete my account, just regulate it every way I can, I like to stay in touch with family and friends.
Oh I've thought about deleting it several times, mostly because of the lame brain post I read made by bigots and people spreading propaganda probably started by this Cambridge Analytica....I usually just hide their post and go on..

I'm keeping mine... As far being targeted with political crap, no third party nor second party can make my mind up for me.
I hardly ever go there,,, but I still want to keep it open.

When I joined Facebook I was alert and conscious. They plainly stated that my information would be harvested and sold. They fully disclosed that I would be seeing ad content based on my posts and preferences. They did not lie. Anyone that is surprised and dismayed that their innermost thoughts were gathered, manipulated, and fed back, is either very naïve or disingenuous in their outrage.
There is NO privacy in todays world. You are a commodity like it or not. Your doctor or Pharmacy gives your info to the Big Pharma so you get targeted mail for blood pressure medicine. Your cell phone marks that you spent 3 minutes in Victorias Secret, but spent an hour and made purchases at the Maiden form store. Your grocery store loyalty card know everything you bought including the lot # of the recalled can of Sphagettios that you bought three months ago. Your State DMV sell your info to aggregators for further resale. You are a commodity, like it or not!

I've been on it only a couple of years - mainly to keep in touch with my grandchildren and their family. I don't post much on it myself and, of course, anything political is strongly anti trump, so not planning on dropping off it.

I'll keep mine, if only because I've used it to share so many of my photos. I've also joined a few groups that are related to where I now live, and I'm also administering a group for folks moving into our new development. It's a fun way to get to know the new neighbors, and also to know it probably bugs the heck out of the sales office here at Vista Point.
I know my info is being sold to others. I guess I just don't care. I'm not being influenced by ads and I just don't spend much time on the platform anyway. It's been a convenient way to keep in touch with my family across the country and share info quickly.

I won't be deleting my account. I never discuss politics on it and mostly just use it for fun things. I never click on ads but I do see that FB and everyone else data mines. When I research back packs? Back packs show up on the feed or this site or any where.

When I research back packs? Back packs show up on the feed or this site or any where. Probably because you haven't cleared your cookies. Once those are cleared you won't see those ads.

Pisces is an intuitive sign. Last Spring, for whatever reason, I abruptly canceled my account. You have to go through some changes to get this done but I was determined...and I couldn't tell you why at the time. I didn't use the system much but I had no reason to completely withdraw...it just seemed right. Anyway, I'm glad I did and I will remain free of them.

At one time I thought about it...thought that FB was creepy...actually still think that. But, staying in touch with out-of-town family and friends is the saving grace.
I use the "Unfollow" feature when Friends get toxic with their alt-right drivel,I don't have too many of those types though.
