I see that you get numerous benefits from Face Book. So you have no reason to discontinue your membership. In my area at that time, a person had to pay a fee to the phone company to keep their phone number and address private. I only have a cell phone now, but I still wouldn't go back to FB. You obviously never got much out of it. Many don't. We hardly use our landline but being in a 'semi-rural' area the only way to get broadband is through our landline. No cable here.

I know that, but they looked up my address and phone number. I had a land line at the time. And people will find you if they want to. If they see you as a friend to someone else, they can also find you very easily. I don't list my phone or even my town, although my mobile is listed so I can use the app on my phone. However, that is listed as only being seen by me. Also my friends list is private - only other friends can see them, and not friends of friends or the public. We also have an unlisted phone number. I have my birthday but I put the year of birth as 1917. I don't list any of my previous surnames so no ex's could find me. I get so much benefit from being on FB. I've also found former coworkers, former inlaws, etc. And the FB groups I'm on are Scotland, American Expats, local groups, and occasionally join over 60's groups. I cringe when I see someone put their phone # in a publicly viewable, there is private message feature that can be used. My profile is left blank, people on my friends list know about me, no need to tell the world. I worked in jails and prisons all my adult life, as a consequence there are a lot of felons that know me. I probably don't need to explain why I want to keep a low profile.

I have looked at profiles of friends of friends when they make a comment I'm curious about, or profiles of people in groups I'm in (some of which have thousands of members). I've seen some list their addresses and phone numbers, exactly where they work, etc etc.

I have my birthday but I put the year of birth as 1917. lol, I just noticed that. One forum I used to be on would display your age, I put my birth date in my Profile as 1847.

Guessing that everybody you keep in touch with is in the US, not all around the world with big time differences? That is true. I'm not knocking FB. My spouse, some of my friends and relatives are on FB. It's just not for me.

I'm keeping my account.. but for sure won't be taking any more of those quaint little "quizzes".. because from what I understand that's were the data mining occurs.

"Every click you make," "Every bait you take," "They make money off of you."

I quit FB a year ago for similar reasons...relatives, old acquaintances, and preloaded emails. I just quit Twitter because it seems to have become a venue for idiots, fanatics, and fascists. I never used either very much...it feels better being clear of them. I don't knock anyone who uses social media as it's intended...just not my cup of tea.
