I "cleaned out my desk", deleted everything out of my profile. I deleted SF bookmarks off all my computers, and will tough it out for the 21 days it takes to either make a good new habit, or to break a bad old habit. Update: 21 days has now past.I am now clean & sober, all the toxins have left my body and mind, and no longer have any desire to post there again.

Actually, the "21 day" time frame for making / breaking a habit has been referred to by many sources as hearsay, and unscientific. That's O.K, I call it a "goal", one self-imposed and just set for reference. Quitting smoking took me 45 years to do, but once I set my mind to it, was only a few days of discomfort. Quitting drinking was easy, once I saw my daily drinking as being a direct threat to my health, and something that I could control...that was it, I was done! Big, chunky chocolate chip cookies... ohhhhhh! :-[

SF just had a poll about totally eliminating the whole political thread. The vote was pretty much even. I suspect it will go away, and I voted to eliminate it. It was always mostly just name calling anyhow. Well, it's gone... but looks like ways are still being found to discuss politics.. Matrix will have to police the entire board now..

I believe it already has hootnannie. Even another veteran's thread locked down when he tried discussing his point of view about taking a knee. A lot of censorship going on over there, IMO. Folks want to discuss what is going on in the news. SF isn't permitting that now.

I understand that it's "his board" and he makes the rules... but geez... if he wants a site for people to enjoy.. he simply cannot dictate what people are interested in or what they want to talk about.. Kind of draconian IMO...

It's suppose to be a forum for Seniors to enjoy, is it not? Quite a few veteran's which have so much to contribute too! The way he is censoring everything makes it look like all those members are in a nursing home and he'll decide what is permitted or not. Hey...there is nothing wrong with posting fluff occasionally, but there are news worthy issues that most people would like to discuss, openly.

Matrix sounds like an old administrator we all had elsewhere, who ran an "uncensored" board. Gawd, I dislike labels! I don't consider anyone old or senile. Age to me doesn't matter. It's the contribution to a thread that I care about and what they have to say, which is more impressive.

I was initially against closing the Political forum, but now that it's a done deal I think it was for the best. ...I no longer have thoughts of what so & so said in response to what I said and.... Better mental health through not giving a $h!t anymore.

IMO a much larger problem is being swept under the carpet, namely the very serious divisions that exist in America. All is not rosey in the land of the free and it won't go away by pretending that is all well. However, as a foreigner I should probably keep my opinions to myself more.

Nope, your opinion is valued and appreciated here. And you're right, there are serious problems in this country.

Wari, your opinions are always welcome, you're from Earth so not regarded as a "foreigner". There is indeed a dangerous rift running through the fabric of American society that isn't going away any time soon. SF forums can't solve the problem, and I actually have to empathize with the admin, in not wanting to deal with all the animosity between members, generated by such political discussion. Playing the Devil's Advocate, I'd have to say this: Regarding an Internet forum with a Political section: 1. let it be 'gladiator school' and admit members to the section, with the disclaimer that "you're on your own", and go home and sleep like a baby. Or, 2. try and moderate the crap out of it, and end up in a lose-lose situation. During my working years, i always told myself I'm so glad to be working in a detentions and correctional environment, where staff has more authority than inmates have rights(that's changing)...rather than an educational institution, where you have elevated responsibility, but limited authority.
