Anyone doing yoga regularly? I've tried it a few times and just decided to turn to it again to try to deal with a very tight left hip and hamstring. I'm sure it's related to a muscle in my back and the fact that I sit quite a bit during the day. It's gotten to the point where it's often painful and impeding my mobility, so I returned to a great session on YouTube that I've done in the past. I'll try it for the next several days to see if I can loosen up the muscles. I tried another routine that had me wincing in discomfort while trying to stretch a very tight hamstring.
They say too much sitting is bad for you. I'm beginning to believe that's true. My muscles have seldom felt so tight.

I have tried Yoga several times... and hated it.. Too much upside down garbage.. it makes me dizzy and nauseous.. besides.. my balance is not what it once was and I feel unsafe rather than peaceful and grounded.. I would much rather do stretching exercises to loosen up muscles and tendons.

I would much rather do stretching exercises to loosen up muscles and tendons. I guess it depends on which part of the body you're trying to work on. Last night I went to the YogaTX site and found a great 15 minute routine (all sitting on the mat) for stretching my lower back and hamstrings. I think as we age, flexibility is important and I've noticed that my left lower back, hip and hamstring all are incredibly tight, so these routines should provide some relief. I can even do them while watching TV.

Feels great after an hour on the treadmill.. best done when muscles are engorged after a workout I'm told.

This is the one I did last night. You might like it. She's got a great narrative style.

I have a little trouble with back pain and bought a tai chi dvd. I only got as far as going the 'warm up' exercises and ended up with a pinched nerve or something down my right hand side. That was a couple of weeks ago and it's almost cleared up. I'll stick to walking for now.

We have hydro-massage beds at my gym and I get one after every workout. They are great for loosening muscles, increasing circulation, and even easing anxiety.

I had been interested in doing yoga again, first practiced in college in the mid 70s; finally started attending a "pop" yoga class last week at the local fitness center. It was strenuous but I loved it! Monday will be my 'yoga day' at the gym from now on. The workout we did was alot like that featured in this video:

We have to do yoga or something like it. It is not normal to get aches and pains with age. It's the modern lifestyle of inactivity and sitting in chairs too much.
What I like most about yoga is that you gradually learn to recognize when you are in balance or not. You can feel what muscles need to be stretched.
Yoga is something you can actually do all the time, because it's really just having awareness of your body. It is very easy to become mentally isconnected from your body and muscles, and that is how things can go wrong.

Yea, I have some trouble when down on the yoga mat, just means I've got work to do to get past that.

There are many variations one can do to stretch and that is a form of yoga. I did classes when I was young and standing on my head etc...B.S. I say, keep stretching and I do it on my bed every day, 2-3 times daily.
I live with 60 yrs of arthritis and a messed up hip replacement and can't imagine NOT doing my daily stretching. Saves Me....
