I just finished 'The Odd Women' by George Gissing (which I thought was just okay, but boring in parts).
Tonight I begin 'The Black Cat And Other Stories' by Edgar Allan Poe. It's a collection of horror stories:
-The Facts In The Case Of M. Valdemar -The Imp Of The Perverse -The Black Cat -The Tell-Tale Heart -The Premature Burial -The Oblong Box -MS Found In A Bottle -A Descent Into The Maelstrom -The Narrative Of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket
I'm looking forward to this one. Poe is a master of horror, and I like a good scare now and then!

Just finished Cormack McCarthy's "No Country for Old Men." I'd seen the movie years ago, but wanted to read the book. Quite a story, but very violent and he has a unique writing style.

I had started 'Moonglass' by Jessi Kirby, but wasn't too far into it before I realized it was written for young teens (maybe ages 13 to 18). I didn't finish it, put it back on one of the 'give-away' shelves in our building, where I first got it. Tenants (including me) donate books and other things we no longer want, and anybody can take what they want. A nice system, really!
Tonight, I'll begin 'Sweetland' by Michael Crummey, one I bought new from amazon.ca. It's set in Newfoundland, by a Canadian author, and it has won and been nominated for several literary fiction awards, so I'm hopeful that it will be a really good story.

I finished reading "Educated" by Tara Westover, a couple of weeks ago, now I'm reading "The God Delusion" Richard Dawkins of which I'm half way through. Dawkins is an interesting read, a little heavy for my brain cells at times, but, still reasonably comprehensible if a bit too unnecessarily wordy. I will start on his, "The Magic Of Reality" after.. Wait, I resemble that too wordy comment. Hmmm pot meet kettle. But, but, but, but, but. I also have waiting to be read a book by one of my favorite authors Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, I've read quite a number of her books.

I thought that Sweetland was a very good read; it held my attention throughout.
Tonight I'll begin "The Devil's Novice" by Ellis Peters. It's one of a series of about 21 mysteries she wrote, all set in 12th century Britain in a Catholic monastery, with Brother Cadfael the central figure and crime-solver. I've read several in this collection, and find them well written, with interesting plots that are complex but easy to follow. I enjoy the medieval setting, with the details of what life was like in that particular time and place!
