Reading Rick Bragg's "All Over But the Shoutin'". My wife read it first and really enjoyed it.
A New York Times Notable Book of the Year
This haunting, harrowing, gloriously moving recollection of a life on the American margin is the story of Rick Bragg, who grew up dirt-poor in northeastern Alabama, seemingly destined for either the cotton mills or the penitentiary, and instead became a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The New York Times. It is the story of Bragg's father, a hard-drinking man with a murderous temper and the habit of running out on the people who needed him most.

Sounds like a good read, something I may look into down the line, I've got quite a few books to get through for now. I was about to start on another Richard Dawkins' book, but, I happened upon Charles W. Chesnutt's historical novel "The Marrow of Tradition" Harrowing story based on the Wilmington NC massacre of 1898. Seems some things don't change even if parties do, almost a look at how times are nearly mirroring some events today from centuries past. I almost don't want to read it, but feel I must, as said by someone somewhere, knowledge is power.

I just finished "Dark Places" by Gilliam Flynn and I'll probably have nightmares tonight but I really needed a distraction from politics and this did the trick. She tells a good tale but I wouldn't recommend it for the squeamish.

Molly's Games
I'm enjoying this book now......have ordered the movie for later.
Molly's Game is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.

I'm currently reading books in the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly because I like the series Bosch on Amazon Fire TV. I also read "The President is Missing" by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. I enjoyed that one very much.

Michelle Obama's new book, "Becoming." Got it on my Kindle. Deciding on whether to start that one or a new mystery I also bought.

I'm a huge fan of Bill Bryson's writing. Just picked up his book called "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid". Hilarious!

I'm reading this book now......highly recommend, such wonderful writing skills of Bragg that give a true picture of the poor in the South when he was growing up....also he reveals how religion played in their lives that lives to this day.

Glad you're enjoying it. He's a wonderful writer. I really love well written prose, and this book gave me a good insight into what it was like for him as he grew up in poverty, yet still made something himself.

I'm reading 2 books at once - one is fiction and one nonfiction.
Becoming by Michelle Obama and Fatal Promise by Angela Marsons (number 9 in the Kim Stone police series - a Birmingham, England cop).
Next book is probably The President is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton.

Tonight I begin reading "Beneath A Scarlet Sky" by Mark Sullivan. I'm very much looking forward to it.
It's based on the true story of an Italian teenager's heroic experiences during WWII, where he eventually ended up spying for The Allies from his position within the German High Command.
