Are we sure about that? There hasn't been a time in my lifetime and I'm 77, that there has been peace and unity in the world among human beings.
There has always been a war somewhere on the planet. Always people young and old being blown to bits over religious beliefs or land. Children being murdered. Children! Babies!
Can anyone honestly say how we can call ourselves intelligent just because we can drive a car, while we blabber on about the right to life while dropping bombs on human babies, their parents, and grandparents and innocent wildlife?
If this is how the intelligent species behaves how do unintelligent species behave?

I'm 75, so we're close. I've said before, I had those same questions for most of my life. None of it made sense until I plugged money into the equation. But money is just a tool to get to the real goal - the goal being, power and control. We protect our territory (our property), just like a bear defends its territory, but we are different in that some of us want to expand our territory. The more territory we have, the more we gain power to influence, or even control other territories...until you have the Kochs, Putin, Xi, Un, Gates, Bezos, Musk, Branson, etc. We do what other animals do - defend our territory, but because we are intelligent, we do it en masse. Intelligence has given some of us the desire, the passion, and the tools to rule the world. No one has achieved that...yet, but some are trying, and they'll let nothing stand in their way other than the others they encounter who seek the same goal. We are intelligent enough to play games, and for those seeking power, they're simply trying to win the game. We are a gluttonous bunch.
It's impossible to define "greed." No matter what definition you go by, it's always subjective and each one of us will have a different opinion about it - another area where we differ from other animals. At what point is someone greedy? There's no clear line. For the most part, animals only deal with survival. We're way past that, enabling some of us to be animals of the worst kind.
