When I see the devastion and destruction mankind has done to the planet, I think about other species who also live or lived on this planet, getting blown to bits because humans disagree with other humans about stuff.
We are a curse, a plague, the most destructive species on the planet, and yet we insist on calling ourselves intelligent.
It's pathetic how easy we lie to ourselves and choose to believe we are the greatest. We are liars. Period.
My heart aches for all the other species who are stuck here with us.

How dare we call ourselves the intelligent species? How dare we? Anybody know?

How dare we call ourselves the intelligent species? How dare we? Anybody know? We have the ability to think critically. Animals don't. We have the ability to calculate. Animals don't. We ask, "who, what, where, when, and why." Then we analyze that information. Animals don't. It's that higher intellectual ability that gets us into trouble. We rationalize bad behavior. Animals don't. We lay guilt trips on others to further an agenda. Animals don't. We're motivated to collect more than we need. Animals aren't. We desire material things. Animals don't. On the other hand, animals are territorial. So are we. In so many ways, we're like animals, but our superior intellect makes us do stupid stuff that animals are incapable of.

No doubt, but separating people from the rest of the animal kingdom was for the purpose of describing how we differ. We are greedy. We are motivated by things other than survival. In fact, for much of the world's population, survival is taken for granted, so we focus on other things. We have created a monetary system we use to gain power. Yes, we are animals with amazing intellectual abilities compared to all other animals on the planet. We are very different. We're capable of doing great things, and we are capable of committing horrible atrocities. No other animal has the ability to do either. Humans are what they are, and as hard as we might try, we can't change that. I've been a saint, and I've been an a$$hole. I think most people can admit to that if they're being honest. We all have good and evil in us. Some have more of one, and some have more of the other. The only way we can make things work is to regulate the a$$holes - something else "animals" can't do. Animals just figure out other ways to make their societies work, and sometimes, their methods are also cruel, but animals don't have a conscience. They don't regret the past. They don't try to shape the future. They deal with everything as it exists in the moment.
