Sit back and watch the happy ending of something of which we have no control. Mankind has a history of pulling this kind of sh$t. From bullies like Trump to pacifists like Carter, they're all characteristics of mankind. I don't know how to rid society of the bad characteristics. I have no choice but to accept that they exist. But...we have no control, so get out the popcorn and enjoy seeing our side make some real progress. It's about time the good guys start accumulating wins. Donald Trump is begging for a prison sentence - almost literally, based on the facts and his arrogant behavior. He's the prosecution's best exhibit. Mmmm...the taste of that popcorn just keeps gettin' better. Gotta trust in something, and I'll trust the system over Trump any day. Let's see how it plays out. |

Yeah, I know my age is showing. ;) Hell, I just turned 75. It's got nothing to do with age. Going forward, we have numerous indictments extending beyond and including Trump...with more to come. Liable suits against Trump and supporting media outlets have been won...with more to come. I believe the Evangelical base isn't enough to put Trump across the finish line. I also believe the number of moderates who are sick of the drama is growing. Abortion, birth control, guns, book bans, growing lack of government protections, etc., are all issues where the masses in general lean left. I don't mind being a cockeyed optimist when there are so many reasons to believe we have the edge. Granted, nothing is guaranteed, but despite the intense crisis we're in, we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic. |

I wish I were the optimist that you are notbob , but in my working career I spent over 45 years operating on the assumption that "anything that can go wrong will go wrong"...and having to have a game plan to put the pieces back together again.
Trump's uber batsh!t crazy following is big enough to put him back in office. If he's not in prison by election day there will be no stopping him from making the U.S. a fascist dictator's paradise.

I wish I were the optimist that you are notbob , but in my working career I spent over 45 years operating on the assumption that "anything that can go wrong will go wrong"...and having to have a game plan to put the pieces back together again.

I was a musician all my working life. Things going wrong was perpetual. I'm well aware of the negative possibilities. I can't deny my concern, but I can't put trust in the negative. The '24 election looks nothing like the '16 election. Yes, his staunch supporters are more entrenched than ever, but he got a fair share of moderate, independent voters in '16. Right now, the polls say it's a virtual dead heat. I don't trust the polls. Biden has barely started his campaign. Just my opinion, but I believe, as more people become aware of the amazing accomplishments of the Biden administration, and guilty verdicts are handed down, Trump and those standing with him will lose support. That says nothing of the batsh$t crazy things Republicans are doing to take away our freedoms and our rights - things that show a lack of support in ballot initiatives. Oh...did I mention, 70% of a well informed and active youth movement leans left. Their entire future is at stake, and they know it. True, nothing is guaranteed, but I believe the pendulum is swinging in our direction. Any way you cut it, we have no control other than our votes. So far, the courts have mostly ruled in favor of protecting our votes. If Trump wins, America is done. I have no choice but to put my trust in the system. If the system fails, I pity the masses who live on after I'm gone. I was appalled by Trump's victory in '16. If he wins in '24, we'll become another Russia, and we'll deserve it. |

I believe that the majority of Americans are coming to their senses, and fully realize the peril their country is in. The steady stream of lies and craziness coming from him have grown old, and are not as convincing as they once were, even to much of his so-called base.
I believe that sanity will prevail in November 2024.

Sounds a little strange to me and also frightening. Actually making threats against other citizens/voters who do not want a lying cheat representing US to the world? Once was enough for rational and sensible people.
Threatening to start a war against other citizens because they realize what a loose cannon your choice for president is? Nope, it doesn't sound reasonable or level headed or democratic or even sane to me.

The reporter should have asked her if she was going to pull another J6 scenario. Actions speak louder than words and that's all those MAGA people have, are words! Wanna look tough by making idle threats as to what they'd do. |

Ok, just heard some reporting about something I/we already knew, but I hadn't considered when I was making my optimistic comments. The "No Labels" party may launch a third-party candidate. The number one contender seems to be Joe Manchin. Joe Manchin has been a thorn in the side of Democrats. He could be considered our worst enemy on some issues, especially climate change. The pundits' assessment seems to be he'll hurt Democrats should he decide to run.
So, I have a question:
Assuming Manchin does run under the No Labels party, will he hurt Democrats or Republicans? I question the pundits' assessment. There are a lot of Republicans who aren't MAGA - Republicans who are sick of Trump, but who may vote for him in the general because they can't bring themselves to vote for a Democrat. It seems Manchin could be the perfect candidate for them. The thinking on the part of some pundits is that Manchin will offer a "reasonable" alternative to Biden and that he may offer some appeal to young voters who don't like the choices - one old man vs another old man. While Manchin will certainly take a share of the votes, I'm not sure it won't be a wash. What are your thoughts?
