I want to thank all the decent, kind, and caring people out there. THANK YOU! You make the world a better place, you take a negative and painful thing and turn it into a positive and joyful thing.
You undo nasty with kindness. You change and restore lives. Hopefully the people you help say thank you.
You are appreciated and thanked by the animals whose lives you save and restore. If they could talk they would thank you over and over and over.
One more time with feeling. THANK YOU! XXX000

What happened? Growing up, the neighboring farmers would help each other harvest, put up hay, etc. If one was ill, others would do their milking or sowing. The neighbor ladies gossiped and acted as if they couldn't stand each other, but if someone took ill, three or four would show up with fresh cooked food. What happened? Men held doors for the ladies. We were taught to say please and thank you. If we didn't show respect for our elders, we were in trouble!! What happened? Seemed I always had to share the car's back seat with somebody the folks picked up on the way to church. Was usually Erma. Erma didn't have indoor plumbing and she stunk!! But, she didn't drive either. So, we took her to church and back home. Neighbor 1/4 mile west was Edith. Edith would call my Mom and say she had fresh baked bread. So, I'd trudge up the hill to get a loaf. The porch door opened into the kitchen. Was always open in the summer. When I'd walk in, Edith would shoo chickens out of a chair so I could sit and talk. Nothing unusual to see a chicken run across their kitchen table or a couple runt pigs on a blanket in the corner. Edith didn't expect anything for the bread except to have someone to visit with a while. What happened? We were taught, "Love they neighbor". We were taught, "You don't have much, but there's people who have less so be thankful for what you do have." We were taught, "If you hear a bad word at school, you better not use it at home 'cause you'll get soap in your mouth!"
What happened to kindness? What happened to respect? What happened to helping those who need help?
Well, we've lost a lot of that. Makes me sad. We should leave society better than we found it. My generation has failed!! Yet, I spent lots of time on the road during my career. Had projects over a wide area of the Midwest. Seemed anywhere I went and stayed from a few days to a few months, I found good people. Pierre, SD is the second smallest State Capitol in the U.S. by population. Walk down the street and people will stop and visit as if they've known you their entire lives. Need directions? Don't need a GPS or cell phone. Just ask someone. They'll appreciate being asked. So many towns and so many good people! There are still good people! There are still LOTS of good people! The bad eggs make the news. The bad eggs are those you see in public being rude... or worse. The good people go about their lives, quietly, just looking for someone to help, an animal that needs rescued, a child that needs a hand reaching something on a store shelf, someone that's a dollar short on their grocery order.
I do wish, sometimes, the good people would get a little more loud... active in politics... active in their communities. The current political clime seems to preach hate and division. Even the churches have jumped on that bandwagon and tell you who you should despise instead of who your should help. The good people need to rise up, but won't because they're too busy helping those who need help!!

There isn't as much coverage about good people doing good things that there is about cruel and evil people destroying others lives.
We have a lunatic here on Long Island who murdered too many women. He's all over the news. I do not, I repeat, I do not want to pay for his room, board, food, and exercise. If he was any other animal he'd already be dealt with by now.
The Bible is correct. An eye for an eye works for me. An eye for free room and board doesn't work at all.
