WW III has been trending on Twitter all day today. There are people saying we need to back away from the Russia/Ukraine issue & others saying if we do, we're only showing weakness as a nation. I also heard talk about it on the news. Thoughts?

It looks like Putin is itching for a war. He seems like a power hungry, greedy, little man. Of course he'd be tucked away in a bunker somewhere while regular folks, pets, wildlife, and planet Earth is being destroyed.
He has shifty eyes and it seems as if when he actually tries to smile it hurts his face.
This guy is, imho, a clear and present danger to the planet.
I honestly don't know the answer to your question. We are dammed if we do and damed if we don't get involved.
Little men, weaklings like putin, cause so much heartache and pain in the world. I see him and those like him as human monsters.

If we back away, Putin will invade other countries. We can not let this happen.
Seems like there is always a little butt dictator trying to conquer the world during many decades.

We did nothing prior to WWII while Hitler was invading countries in Europe. He didn't stop with just one - and neither will Putin. He has visions of a regenerated USSR and he's willing to do anything to obtain that goal - up to and including Nuclear capability. He's ruthless and extremely power hungry, as well as willing to tell any lies he can come up with to "justify" his actions. He must be stopped - he is incapable of backing off himself. If China joins the fray. It will be hell here on Earth - especially if that AH in N Korea adds his 2 cents. There is also talk of India gradually turning against the Western nations also. I don't think the people against helping Ukraine really realize the consequences of letting Putin conquer Ukraine.

I believe we should help Ukraine. Below is a URL which describes events leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the results of that disaster. It could very easily happen again. Remember when trump was president and had a special, private meeting with Putin after the 2016 election? What was that all about? Nobody but the interpreter who was translating their conversations knows. In 1941 FDR was President and a good one, too. What if someone like trump had been in power in 1941? Maybe that's why trump went batsh!t crazy when he lost the 2020 election. I wonder what putin promised him??????? So maybe when you read the following URL, you will agree we should help Ukraine.

Putin in a corner. Corner a mad dog and he will bite. It is suspected Putin is quite ill so what does he have to lose. No matter the cost, he feels it's his charge to make the old USSR whole again.
But...
Putin has found what he... and most of the rest of the world... believed about the strength of his military was/is way overrated. Russia's military has been held at bay by a bunch of rogue patriots using antiquated weapons and equipment. Now, Putin can threaten nuclear war, but must have some misgivings about just how his nuclear power would match up against the U.S.
Putin have every faith from the U.S. former POTUS no one would stand in his way as he invaded Ukraine. Trump had neutered NATO. Trump had befriended Putin. Putin had assisted in getting Trump elected in 2016. And... Biden was an old man and a "snowflake" Democrat. Once the first shot was fired, Biden reenergized NATO, united most of Europe behind Ukraine, and began providing modern military equipment to Ukraine. Putin had made his move, but has to know it a mistake that he underrated Biden and the NATO alliance. If Putin pulls the trigger on one nuclear warhead, the entire Western world will end Russia as he knows it.
Iran has assisted Russia with missiles, drones, etc. The weaponry provided to Ukraine by the West has defused most of those. Drones are shot down. Missiles are shot down.
The, enter China. Xi would like to assist Russia. Xi and Putin would like those two powers united against the U.S. and the West. Putin gets Ukraine, Poland, etc. back. Xi gets Taiwan. Xi, though, has seen Russia suddenly not the power anyone thought they were. Xi also has seen the U.S. stand up against aggression and knows Biden would not take the invasion of Taiwan sitting down. Can Putin and Xi tie up? Xi has to be really doubting how much Russia would help as their military has been cut off at the knees.
I don't think anyone wants to start a nuclear conflict. Xi tossed out a "peace agreement" that was trashed by Ukraine. Ukraine isn't going to allow part of their Country to be handed to Russia. Russia probably cannot overrun Ukraine as the U.S. and the West continue supporting their military.
IMHO, this conflict will keep simmering until late this year or early 2024. Who will be the Republican candidate for POTUS? If Trump appears to be the candidate... and Putin believes he can help Trump win again... Putin will continue his march into Ukraine. If the GOP candidate favors Ukraine and Putin would see that candidate and Biden as the two vying for POTUS, Putin will know he's defeated and begin a pull back.
No WWIII. More killing of women and children in Ukraine. The longevity of this conflict depends on the 2024 POTUS election.

We insist on calling ourselves the intelligent species. I hate to say this again, but it's so true. Never listen to what people say. Watch what they do!
