A woman on another chat room, called her cat her baby. Another woman pounced on her like a fly on you know what. Telling her it's not her baby it's her pet. Duh! You don't think she knows that? I'm pretty sure she knows she did not give birth to a kitten. I call my cats my babies plus a few other affectionate words. Why can't people mind their own business? Or, as my dear Mother would say, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." I'm in my 70's and I'm still working on that.

How ridiculous and she does need to mind her own business!
I call my #1 cat, Baby or Babygirl. I most likely would have had a few choice words for that person in that chatroom. lol

People can call their pets whatever they like, and that nasty woman needs to keep her unkind thoughts to herself.

To farmers who have cattle/sheep/and livestock they rarely refer to their animals as babies. I sometimes do a little cringe when people refer to their dogs or cats as Fur Babies. However that is absolutely their right. Who am I to say different?
My little dog is my pal, and my wonderful friend but I was not brought up to refer to pets as babies. It is really my issue because I was brought up as a rural farm girl.
One of the funniest things was a woman in NY sent me a message asking why my mules didn't wear coats and hoodies like her horses did in the winter. She was adamant that I was mistreating them because they didn't wear blankets. I explained to her that equine's grow winter coats that are water repellent and insulating just like the equines in the wild do.
I still get a message once in a while regarding that.
I don't think anyone referred to their pets as babies years ago, did they?
However I would never correct or get on someone's case for doing that in this day and age. It is a very common way to refer to our pets.

It's simply an affectionate term. Nothing more. Some people refer to those they love as sweetheart. I do. I don't know for sure but I assume nobody ever thinks their loved one's heart is made of sugar, candy, or syrup.
Maybe the woman complaining about the affectionate term has a legit reason to feel that way. Fine. If that's the case think it to yourself. Don't smack down someone in a chat room who is expressing tender feelings to her pet. You don't know anything about her life and she knows nothing about yours. She loves her pets. Some people have affectionate names for them.
I have to go now. Time to feed my babies. ;)
