Brazilian law enforcement officials to revive fraud case against GOP's George Santos: NYTScandal-plagued Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) now faces potential criminal prosecution in two different countries. The New York Times reports that law enforcement authorities in Brazil intend to reopen a 15-year-old fraud case involving Santos that had been shelved because police had for years been unable to locate him. After Santos got elected to Congress last year and after the majority of his life story was exposed as a fabrication, he apparently came back under prosecutors' radars. "Nathaly Ducoulombier, a spokeswoman for the Rio de Janeiro’s prosecutors office, said that with Mr. Santos’s 'whereabouts identified,' a formal request will be made to the U.S. Justice Department to notify him of the charges, a necessary step after which the case will proceed with or without him," the paper writes. According to previous Times reporting, Santos is accused of using a stolen checkbook to spend $700 under a false name in a clothing boutique in the city of Niterói. What's more, prosecutors in the country have proof of Santos admitting the crime to the checkbook's owner on a social media app, as he told the owner he knew he "screwed up" and vowed to repay him. He's a real piece of work! I'm just blown away by his brazen dishonesty. He's in the right political party, that's for sure!

He's a piece of work! Told his first lie in the chamber by releasing a statement that he was proud to be sworn into the 118th congress this afternoon.
No one was sworn in today because house republicans failed to elect a speaker.

Truth, integrity, patriotism, Constitution, constituency... none of those words mean one darn thing to today's Republican. They're the school bully who holds the defenseless kid's head in the toilet, thinking it will enhance their reputation. The Democrats are the ones who will comfort the defenseless child, clean him up, and work hard to rebuild his confidence. GOP... tear it down for attention. Dems... build it up for the good of all.
MTG, Gaetz, Bobert, Graham, Cruz, Jordan, McCarthy... the list is long of GOP members of Congress who have zero desire to protect the future of the U.S. or the Earth. On one hand, it hurts to see our legislative branch so broken. On the other hand, nothing these people do or any piece of trash they elect would surprise me.

McCarthy sold his soul to the right wing republicans. They are the ones running the speakership.

Good point! As the old saying goes, birds of a feather lie, cheat, steal, and deceive together. Sorry birds you don't deserve that. These so called Republicans deserve each other. We don't deserve any of them. They need to pick a new name. I'm sure true Republicans aren't pleased. At least I hope so.

Santos isn't much different than MTG, Boebert, Gaetz, etc. They all exist in the world of untruths... with zero conscience. Santos may have gone too far. The FEC was just starting an investigation when the DOJ asked them to pause it. Seems the DOJ is investigating Santos, also. Word on the street is that when the DOJ threatens indictment, Santos will accept a plea bargain to resign from Congress and pay some large sum of cash. I'm not totally sold on that. First, still not convinced this DOJ has the spine to indict any politician, especially a Republican. And, Santos may just disappear. He's wanted in Brazil. He has a pocketful of cash from the Russians that he would probably have to give back what's left if he leaves Congress. He may just head to Europe and never be heard of again. The Russians have ways of "helping" him disappear if he would renege on their investment in him being a Trump vote in Congress.
