Church last Saturday night. People in the foyer passing out pamphlets and bumper stickers supporting an anti-abortion measure on our upcoming August Primary Election. Our GOP legislature going the same way as so many others, trying to take medical choices out of the hands of a woman and her doctor. Trying to do it by way of a State constitutional amendment.
The church newsletter this week was encouraging folks to come by the church and pick up yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. This should be in violation of the church's tax exempt status!! Can't mix politics in the church and remain tax free. So, I emailed our State Department of Revenue, asking them to send a cease and desist letter to the church. No response from the State. Will be interesting to see if I do get a response.

IRS is where you go for something like this because a 501c3 application must be approved through them. www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1828.pdf Hope you took one of those newsletters for proof of your complaint. Maybe even snapped a few pictures on your cell of the paraphernalia they had on hand to pick up.

Many churches do things like that and still remain tax-exempt.

Many churches do things like that and still remain tax-exempt. Probably because they weren't reported for violating their tax exempt status? The IRS takes this seriously. They will investigate it after a complaint is filed with them.

I hope the IRS takes this seriously too. My concern is the person at the IRS who gets the complaint supports the union of church and state.
