Two trucks and two cars involved in a really bad accident on the turnpike about 50 miles to our east. One of the truck caught fire. Turnpike shut down for hours, clearing the mess. Five people involved in the crash. Each of the truck drivers. The driver of one auto. In the other auto was a mother and her 16 year old daughter. Their vehicle was flipped up on its nose and pinned between one of the trucks and the median barrier. All five in the accident survived. That was a miracle in itself. But, the mother and daughter whose car was left stuck on its nose not only both survived, but had only minor cuts and bruises. www.wibw.com/2021/08/04/crash-survivor-god-our-guardian-angels-truly-protected-saved-us/We've had a rash of bad truck/auto accidents just in the past few days. Five from our area were killed when their vehicle was met by a truck head on in Missouri. Another truck/auto crash killed one in Northwest Kansas. And, today, a lady from the town 15 miles west of us was killed in a truck/auto accident. All those and the one on the turnpike took place in the last 5 to 7 days. The mother and 16 year old girl will have nightmares for some time to come.... Sometimes some folks have an angel sitting on their shoulder at the right time.

That's scary. That they survived the crash without serious injuries is a miracle. The picture of their car against the median is frightening.
I have noticed some bad drivers out there, especially since the pandemic. I was coming home from a PT appointment this afternoon when a red haired 40ish woman in mid sized red auto came up behind me and honked and threw up her hands. I have no idea what I did except change lanes. (I had my turn signal on.) When I waited in a left turn lane at the next traffic light, she roared past me honking like crazy.
What an unbalanced person! Can't help wondering if she would have acted that way towards a male driver.

I blame today's drivers as one of the reasons I finally retired. Over those last 15 years, I was running 25,000 to 30,000 miles/year. The drivers seemed to get worse every year. Much of the issue I blame on cell phones. The get tuned in to the phone conversation and totally tuned out on driving. Also, the aggressiveness is getting out of hand. People are driving angry. Some would tag me as an "aggressive" driver. I like to get from Point A to Point B in the shortest amount of time... as long as I can do it without endangering life and limb. I get frustrated with the person driving 30 mph in a 45 mph zone. Things like that, though, do not hurt anyone. It's the people making right hand turns out of left hand lanes... ignoring 'Yield' signs... blowing through traffic lights... pulling out in front of me when on their cell phone... etc. I know these are people who will cause an accident, someday. Just hope it's not someone in my family involved... or myself.
