No! They are more religious but not more moral than anybody else. Pedophile priest are a good example. Just saying. We, including priests are mere mortals, yet we expect priests (preachers) to live up to a higher standard than the rest of us. As an atheist, I see people who take a vow of celibacy very strange. Someone who is that "off the wall" is someone I would tend to avoid. Based on the number of cases of pedophilia we hear about that involves "men of the cloth," I think I'm right to avoid them. Preachers of most religions often make false predictions and/or attribute strange occurrences to offending god. "The hurricane hit Anytown, USA because there are a lot of homosexuals , or Muslims, or (fill in the blank) living there." To me, that just proves how strange some of these people are. But again, they, like all of us, are just people. They are no less prone to lying, cheating, stealing, pedophilia, etc. than anyone else, and due to the fact that they are already a strange lot, they may actually be more prone to deviant behavior than the rest of us.

They are also a little tiny bit judgemental.
When I was a young woman I had to go to confession. It's a Catholic thing. I remember thinking the guy behind the curtain listening to me telling him all about the sins I committed is probably enjoying hearing this all day long. Sin after sin committed by teenagers. Kind of like an X rated video.
All he has to do is sit and listen, imagine the scene in his mind, tell the sinner to say a lot of prayers for forgiveness, and then listen to the next juicy, sinful story. All in a days work.
Nice work if you can get it. Lol.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in this section or in the funnies section, but can you believe some are so arrogant (and dumb) that they really think all that's going on in our country/world these days is because the Bible and organized prayer are no longer permitted in schools? An expression I picked up: "No, that's not it.."

The people doing evil things are selfish, greedy, and evil because that's who they are...period. It has nothing to do with a book. It has to do with cruel people being cruel.
If you want to ban a book that's full of wars, killing, and other awful things start with the Bible!

Many people came to this country to escape religious persecution. Interesting how the tide has turned. Now too many people, who at one time would have been persecuted because of their beliefs, now feel free to persecute others who don't believe as they do.

1. If they want religious books and prayer in schools, can they offer that for Christian, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, agnostics, etc.? Or, is this indoctrination of all school children into a single one of the world religions?
2. The Bible was just banned in a Utah school district. The parent who objected to the Bible being in the school library charged that is definitely fit the recent law passed in Utah. The Bible contains rape, murder, genital mutilation, etc... things the law explicitly states will be banned. What goes around, comes around.
3. Drag shows, same sex marriages, people coming out as LBGTQ are not committing nearly as many sexual abuses of children as are the clergy. The number of Catholic priests found to have committed sexual abuse numbers in the thousands. Our state just changed our statute of limitations where complaints/charges can be filed for many years after the abuse took place. Many of the clergy abuses swept under the rug by the Church may not be seen in the court system.
4. Moral? Many of the evangelical churches are still behind the reelection of the former guy. Adulterer, convicted sexual abuser, promoter of the sexual abuse of women, liar, paid off prostitute(s), made fun of handicapped people... the list is long, yet the cult still will suggest he is "godly" and their god will put him back in power.
I could go on and on and on. Understand that when I graduated high school I entered seminary for two years. Was going to become a pastor in a very conservative denomination. Life changed. We are not currently attending any church, due to some recent involvement of our church in local and state politics. We have difficulty understanding... and tolerating... the hate and disrespect preached from the pulpits. They may be "Christians", but they certainly do not follow the teachings of Christ.
Moral?? Not by a long shot!!!

I was chatting to a old friend ( who’s is also a 3 rd cousin ) on the phone a few days ago ,she said her son who’s a preacher has decided to retire because he’s not getting the $$$$ he used to get from his” flock “ THIS ….the same son who made the decision to let his father die 5 years ago , John had a stroke he was super fit for someone who’d just turned 80 …… as like us he was a ballroom dancer ….however the family was told John would more then likely be 90% blind due to the stroke ….and the drs were unsure if he’d be able to looked after at home by his wife …..( they estimated he’d live 3 years + ) so the “ head of the family” Son….made the decision to let John slowly die , by keeping him sedated and not giving him any food / water , my friend said when she was there with her husband and he woke up he tried to speak to her ……but she obeyed her sons wishes to keep him sedated ……cause the son is a minister John took 2 weeks to die ….. Thats religion for you ….what Barbaric way to let a loved one die IMO I’ll call her Bev …also said to me oh we’ve been informed , we have to pay a set amount at church now days , and she’s not up with modern technology ( internet banking ) so they’ve given her set amounts to pay / Bank …..each payday , she was dropping $$$ dollar amount of $150.00 per fortnight as aged pensions get paid fortnightly …. (she’s deeply religious)

Instead of paying bills ….the only thing I see as good thing is at least she , will have a bad name now and won’t be able to go out and get another car on time payment , only to do the same thing ( my son had no knowledge she wasn’t paying the bills ) cause he trusted her to do so. The worry for us now do we change our wills ….I don’t want our hard earned assets / money to go to churches or to her relatives in the Philippines ( which has been happening as well)

The grandmother kept them poor by sending checks each month to the early televangelists, missionaries, etc. I can tolerate people giving some money to a cause they support. But, for the churches to grift their parishioners into poverty, tearing apart families, is just greed and cruelty. It has become no different with the cult of a former POTUS. He is a billionaire, but has convinced the least educated they must give their last dollars to him for his legal bills and opulent lifestyle. And... they do it.

I will never understand why people believe God exists when there's absolutely no proof of it, and like any grifter, the church continues to repeat the lie to create guilt, so people try as hard as they can to believe in it despite its lack of logic. "If you don't believe, you'll spend all of eternity in a fiery place where a man with horns and a pitchfork will lord over you and torture you." So, the devil will exact revenge on you because you don't believe his enemy exists." Lol...yeah, that makes sense. Just to be clear...tell me again why God gave us a brain.

No my DIL attends , gives the money to the CATHOLIC church notbob she is 40 years old. They have 3 young children 10 / 9/ 8 and they wanted a expensive item for Christmas being a PlayStation 5 think it’s called and when they asked I said yes I can pay for half of it if your parents pay the other half ( they cost $800) now they won’t be getting nothing more than a small gift cause their mother has given all the money away and lost the car , which will be sold to recover outstanding debt however if it doesn’t make enough to cover the debt they will still have to repay the remainder owing I’d imagine…..I’m not sure as I’ve never had an issue like that.

My point is, the church perpetuates a lie in order to make money - very often from people who can't afford to give to the church. The lie is that there is a God, and he will punish you if you don't believe in him. That scares the crap out of people, so they do foolish things to prove their belief and their loyalty. It doesn't matter if it's the Catholic church, the Baptist church, The Pentecostal church or whatever church. The church expects 10% of your income. Some people don't live up to the church's expectations. Some people give more than 10%. The problem is that the message the church spreads is that there is a God, and if you don't live up to his expectations, you'll go to hell. It's a scam. Ask any religious person to prove that what their church preaches is true. They can't, any more than I can prove I have an invisible elf on my shoulder.
