102 new cases in our county since July 7th. 6 of the new cases were breakthroughs... positive tests in those already vaccinated. All others were in unvaccinated people. Most of the cases were in ages between 25 and 35 years of age. One death. That was an 85 year old lady who was unvaccinated. Understand, we live in a VERY red state. Neighbor three houses north flies a Trump flag. Yet, the unvaccinated percent in our state is small compared to a couple neighboring states... Missouri and Arkansas. Due to the Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City Missouri "blend", our State Department of Health is fearful of a bleed over from Missouri. Those in your state are so foolish not to get their shots. They are endangering themselves and others who are vaccinated. nkat Try explaining that to Trump cultists. One of our State Senators just announced he is going to get a bill in the Senate to force the transportation industry to drop all mask mandates. Gotta support Trump, no matter the cost in lives!!!!

Yesterday I mowed the fence row of my property, when I got up to my new Trumpie neighbor's property I noticed he had taken down all the Trump flags he has had flying in his pasture for over a year and he had a big new one that read "F**k Biden"......These people scare the living daylights out of me, they are crazy, they not only will not get vaccinated, they don't want anyone else to get vaccinated because they think it is a liberal thing.

Trump has had a most evil and dangerous influence over his rabid followers! It's an uphill battle to get/keep the virus under control with all these ignorant/ill-informed individuals refusing to be vaccinated. A lot of them are starting to learn the hard way that Trump's deceptions are resulting in many thousands of hospitalizations (and/or deaths) while the anti-vaccers continue spreading a deadly virus throughout their communities. A pox on all their houses!

These people scare the living daylights out of me, they are crazy, they not only will not get vaccinated, they don't want anyone else to get vaccinated because they think it is a liberal thing. Talking the other day at Walmart, with a die hard Republican "Trumper," (as he calls himself) he stated he wasn't vaccinated and wasn't going to get any because his "idol" survived his "short" bout with it. I laughed, actually told him what a friggin' idiot he was to believe such crap because his hero was in bad shape, that his staff didn't think he'd be coming out of Walter Reed hospital alive. After his stunt...he and all of his family got vaccinated but didn't inform his MAGA idiots that he did so. Said to him, "Don't believe me...go home and Google what I just said!" I kept pounding him...asked him if he had his house in order because with his recent heart surgery, if he catches the delta variety of covid, he's not going to survive it at his age. Told him to turn off Faux news, go down the street on his way home, swing by Rite-aid and get vaccinated AND put a d*mn mask on your face until you do!!!! No...I'm not one to keep my mouth shut when someone tries to act all trumpy on me, like they are so cool, to blindly follow their idol. Also told him if couldn't name one good thing he did for this country, then this conversation is over! We parted ways, after, he told me, it was nice seeing me, again! LOL

LOL....Good for you, Drifter! I wish I could muster up more courage to confront the idiots. I just try to do what I can in the background and hope they'll wake up soon, then I come in here to let off steam....My family knows how I feel, we don't discuss politics...I am surrounded by Trumpers. With my family, I have decided that our relations will be better if and when they see the light without me hammering them over the head about it...BUT thank God and greyhound there are people like you and the Texas Democrat Representatives!

Internal CDC document urges new messaging, warns delta infections likely more severe Source: Washington Post
The delta variant of the coronavirus appears to cause more severe illness than earlier variants and spreads as easily as chickenpox, according to an internal federal health document that argues officials must “acknowledge the war has changed.” The document is an internal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention slide presentation, shared within the CDC and obtained by The Washington Post. It captures the struggle of the nation’s top public health agency to persuade the public to embrace vaccination and prevention measures, including mask-wearing, as cases surge across the United States and new research suggests vaccinated people can spread the virus.
The document strikes an urgent note, revealing the agency knows it must revamp its public messaging to emphasize vaccination as the best defense against a variant so contagious that it acts almost like a different novel virus, leaping from target to target more swiftly than Ebola or the common cold. It cites a combination of recently obtained, still-unpublished data from outbreak investigations and outside studies showing that vaccinated individuals infected with delta may be able to transmit the virus as easily as those who are unvaccinated.
Vaccinated people infected with delta have measurable viral loads similar to those who are unvaccinated and infected with the variant. “I finished reading it significantly more concerned than when I began,” Robert Wachter, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco, wrote in an email. CDC scientists were so alarmed by the new research that the agency earlier this week significantly changed guidance for vaccinated people even before making new data public.
The data and studies cited in the document played a key role in revamped recommendations that call for everyone — vaccinated or not — to wear masks indoors in public settings in certain circumstances, a federal health official said. That official told The Post that the data will be published in full on Friday. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky privately briefed members of Congress on Thursday, drawing on much of the material in the document.

Although I'm now fully vaccinated with Pfizer, I had already planned to continue using a mask for my own sense of security/comfort, and that of others. There's no way of knowing in crowds or any indoor spaces who is and who isn't vaccinated. My only concession is that I now feel I can take a walk outdoors without a mask if there aren't a lot of people around. We still require being masked in all public areas of my apartment building, and people in my Province aren't allowed in stores, restaurants, hair salons, etc., without masks.
In light of these new revelations, I hope masking continues to be recommended and/or mandated for everybody in crowds and indoor spaces, with hefty fines for those who don't follow the rules.

Me too formerlyme, my vaccine was Pfizer too....I've only recently started wearing the mask again and I'll probably start ordering and picking up my groceries again.
Do you have the anti vaxxers where you live?

Kady , there are relatively few anti vaxxers in my Province. To date, 76% of Nova Scotians have had their first shot, and over 62% are fully vaccinated with a second shot. Most people here are inclined to follow the recommended health protocols. We've only ever had 20 Delta variant cases in Nova Scotia so far, but it has become rampant in some of Canada's western provinces. I'm going to be very cautious for that reason, and continue getting my groceries delivered for now.

Local school district announced that beginning August 1, any person in a school facility will be required to be masked. Teachers, administration, maintenance staff, students... everyone. That we followed within a few hours by the state university in our community. Anyone on university property must be masked when indoors. Our Trumper senator is raising quite a stink. He's all about looking good for Trump, regardless of his constituency's health and well being.

I Hope our schools do the same, although I read this earlier so who knows what will happen here. Texas Governor Threatens Fines for Local Officials Who Enforce Mask Mandates Texas governor Greg Abbott on Thursday threatened to issue fines to local officials who enforce new mask mandates. Abbott’s warning comes after the CDC reversed course earlier this week and recommended that people in areas with substantial spread of COVID-19 should wear masks indoors — including vaccinated individuals. The new guidance is the result of concerns over the highly transmissible Delta variant. “Texans have mastered the safe practices that help to prevent and avoid the spread of COVID-19. They have the individual right and responsibility to decide for themselves and their children whether they will wear masks, open their businesses, and engage in leisure activities,” Abbott said in a statement. The Republican governor issued an executive order on Thursday encouraging residents in areas with high transmission to “follow the safe practices they have already mastered,” such as wearing masks where social distancing is not feasible. www.yahoo.com/news/texas-governor-threatens-fines-local-012211820.html

COVID SCIENCE-Moderna may be superior to Pfizer against Delta; breakthrough odds rise with time Aug 9 (Reuters) - The following is a roundup of some of the latest scientific studies on the novel coronavirus and efforts to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19. Moderna's vaccine may be best against Delta The mRNA vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech may be less effective than Moderna's against the Delta variant of the coronavirus, according to two reports posted on medRxiv on Sunday ahead of peer review. In a study of more than 50,000 patients in the Mayo Clinic Health System bit.ly/37Btmhf, researchers found the effectiveness of Moderna's vaccine against infection had dropped to 76% in July - when the Delta variant was predominant - from 86% in early 2021. Over the same period, the effectiveness of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine had fallen to 42% from 76%, researchers said. While both vaccines remain effective at preventing COVID hospitalization, a Moderna booster shot may be necessary soon for anyone who got the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines earlier this year, said Dr. Venky Soundararajan of Massachusetts data analytics company nference, who led the Mayo study. In a separate study, elderly nursing home residents in Ontario produced stronger immune responses - especially to worrisome variants - after the Moderna vaccine than after the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. The elderly may need higher vaccine doses, boosters, and other preventative measures, said Anne-Claude Gingras of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in Toronto, who led the Canadian study. When asked to comment on both research reports, a Pfizer spokesperson said, "We continue to believe... a third dose booster may be needed within 6 to 12 months after full vaccination to maintain the highest levels of protection." finance.yahoo.com/news/covid-science-moderna-may-superior-203636135.html
