After running errands today, on our way home, we stopped at Rite-aid so my hubby could get his second dose of the Pneumococcal vaccine.
I inquired as to when they would be getting the Covid vaccine in and start giving them since their website stated they had none. To our surprise, they said we could get one right now. So we did get our first dose of Moderna vaccine this afternoon. Hubby didn't get the vaccine he went for since you cannot get both at the same time. He felt the Covid vaccine was more important right now. Got another appointment to go back for the second dose on the 26th of March. Then, 2 weeks after that, he can get the Pneumococcal vaccine.
We were stoked, to walk in and not having to schedule or wait. The Pharmacist said if we knew anyone that needed vaccinated for covid, tell them to come in because they had 25 doses left.

Got my first yesterday and scheduled for my 2nd the end of March. Had to go to another county. Nkat States get to set their own criteria for administration of shots. And... some states push those decisions on to the counties. That's the way it is here. Phase 1 was front line health care and emergency workers. Hospital, nursing home staff. EMT's, etc. And, over 65 with health issues. Phase 2 was anyone over 65. School teachers. Courthouse staff. We move to Phase 3 this coming Monday. That is anyone age 25 to 64 with health issues. Our son-in-law works for Kroger's. He is in contact with dozens of people each day coming through their store. He cannot get a shot because he is not "critical" and 'only' has asthma. Has to wait until Phase 4. He's pretty upset. Around more people than so many who have already been vaccinated. Gets prescription medication for his asthma. He called the next county over and they told him they wouldn't vaccinate because he didn't live in that county. His store's pharmacy department all got their shots. But, the pharmacy department is separate from Kroger employees and were deemed critical care workers. Seems county to county, state to state, there are significantly different vaccination "rules". A retired friend lives about 100 miles south of us. His county was way late in beginning vaccinations. So... he called around the state and finally found a county who was offering shots to over 65, no matter where you lived. He and his wife drove almost 150 miles, on way, to get shots. But... they don't work and had lots of time on their hands.

geez Texans just can not get a break from the stupidity....I'm so glad I've got my vaccine started. Abbott ends Texas mask mandate, opens businesses '100 percent' Source: Houston Chronicle Gov. Greg Abbott announced the end of the statewide mask mandate Tuesday. He also announced that businesses can soon open at 100 percent capacity March 10. In a speech to the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Abbott declared that "state mandates are no longer needed" following promising COVID-19 numbers over the last few days. "Too many Texans have been sidelined from opportunity," Abbott said. "... This must end. It is now time to open Texas 100 percent." Any local order mandating masks is no longer valid, Abbott said. A local county judge may order restrictions if regional COVID-19 hospitalizations reach 15 percent. Read more: www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/mask-mandate-ends-business-open-15994001.php

Houston became the first city to record all major Covid strains and only 13.4% of the Texas population has gotten at least one vaccine dose. With those stats, Governor Abbott is foolish!

Yes very....one half the population of Texas has never taken the virus or vaccine seriously....someone said Abbott is doing this to take the heat off the power outage catastrophe....who knows with him.

Well, this was expected with the actions of the governor of Texas and those of the same caliber... CDC Chief Warns of 'Impending Doom' as Covid Cases, Deaths Rise Source: Bloomberg By Josh Wingrove and Shira Stein March 29, 2021, 11:34 AM EDT Updated on March 29, 2021, 12:07 PM EDT Walensky says she’s scared by uptick that hints at fourth wave U.S. doesn’t have ‘luxury of inaction’ amid spike, she says The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pleaded with Americans to wear masks and stick with Covid-19 mitigation measures, warning of “impending doom” as cases, hospitalizations and deaths begin to rise again. Rochelle Walensky, speaking at a press briefing Monday, fought back tears as she outlined a series of warning signals and said she was frightened about a looming fourth wave of Covid cases. The seven-day average for new daily Covid-19 cases is now almost at 60,000, up 10% from the prior week. Hospitalizations are also up, to about 4,800 a day from 4,600 a week earlier. Deaths, a lagging indicator, have also started to rise again, she said. “I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom. We have so much to look forward to, so much promise and potential of where we are and so much reason for hope, but right now I’m scared,” she said. Governor Abbott is foolish! This is a stand-alone statement of fact! Abbot, his Lieutenant Governor, and his Attorney General have shown their idiocy more than once. Their priority is appearing as allies of their in-State billionaires... those who are white... and as doing what they can to support the former POTUS.

Well went to eat Easter dinner at DD’s house. Found out 2 days later my gds both had COVID. We thought they had colds, no temps. They were playing school sports, which in MHO was stupid. I have been quarantining even though I had both shots. Eldest gd did have one shot and her symptoms were far less than youngest one. Need to close school sports down.

Troubling news, nkat. I hope the granddaughters recover well, with no after-effects. You are wise to quarantine for a while.

Eldest is back at school while middle school is closed down until Monday for youngest gd because of COVID. Youngest had these same symptoms 2 months ago and both quick and regular test for COVID came back negative. Go figure.

Pfizer CEO says third Covid vaccine dose likely needed within 12 months, then annually www.cnbc.com/2021/04/15/pfizer-ceo-says-third-covid-vaccine-dose-likely-needed-within-12-months.htmlPfizer CEO Albert Bourla said people will “likely” need a third dose of a Covid-19 vaccine within 12 months of getting fully vaccinated. His comments were made public Thursday but were taped April 1. Bourla said it’s possible people will need to get vaccinated against the coronavirus annually. “We need to see what would be the sequence, and for how often we need to do that, that remains to be seen,” he told CNBC’s Bertha Coombs during an event with CVS Health. “A likely scenario is that there will be likely a need for a third dose, somewhere between six and 12 months and then from there, there will be an annual revaccination, but all of that needs to be confirmed. And again, the variants will play a key role.” “It is extremely important to suppress the pool of people that can be susceptible to the virus,” Bourla said.

Bourla said it’s possible people will need to get vaccinated against the coronavirus annually. I don't see a problem with that. Afterall, we vaccinate for the flu yearly so we don't get it so severely. Most likely the Covid-19 vaccine will be available at any Pharmacy next year for the annual jabs.
