www.factcheck.org/2009/07/michelles-european-vacation/Did Michelle Obama and her daughters use taxpayer money to take a European vacation? A: The first lady, her mother and her children did stay in Europe for a private vacation after the president completed an overseas trip on official business. However, no taxpayer money was used for the first family’s personal expenses.
It sound like Opinion to me. Many people now a days get Opinion and facts confused.
Are you saying all first families should hide out in the White House and not go golfing or on vacation?
Wrong vacation...FYI Not opinion you got the vacation wrong. www.investors.com/politics/columnists/michelle-obama-travel-expenses/Part of the link... You may recall Michele Obama's controversial trip with friends to Spain's luxury Costa del Sol in 2010 at a time when the U.S. unemployment rate was 9.5% on the way to 9.8%. And President Obama's $1 trillion economic stimulus package had yet to kick in. Of course, it's still yet to kick in. According to numbers gathered by Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates government corruption, that trip cost Americans at least $468,000. --------------------------------------- Also form the link.. By one accounting, as of last July the Obamas had spent more than $44.4 million in taxpayer money on travel for 31 international trips lasting 119 days. For comparison, at the same point in his presidency Ronald Reagan had made 14 trips lasting 73 days.

Obama's books did that..... put money in their own pocket. President Obama did not write a book while he was president nor did his family travel other countries promoting any books that he wrote with secret service protection, paid for with taxpayer money...There are laws against this that most presidents are aware of but Trumpie and company really don't care about laws, I think you know all of this, give it up Montana.

The new view opens thing up. It so much to ado about nothing. No big deal, look what Ms Obama did putting in a garden with raised beds..what did that cost, but Ms Obama was fast and louse with taxpayers money. Is the garden still there? If so what is it costing us taxpayers? What former First Lady Obama spent on gardening is microscopic compared to what tRump has spent on golfing. Ya'all know trump has squandered millions of taxpayer dollars using his golf trips to escape performing the duties of POTUS.

Could we get back to discussing the new Rose Garden? Old Montana has taken over this subject and turned it into a criticism of the Obamas. Remember that Old Montana is a troll and we don't have to reply to his rude comments.
I'd like to know what others think about the change to the historical White House Rose Garden, which I think is shocking. If people keep responding to O.M. I'll ask Drifter to lock this post. Thanks.

Although the White House seemed blindsided by the criticism, perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise. "Obviously, this was a risk," said Anita McBride, who served as chief of staff to former first lady Laura Bush. "The more expensive a trip, the more criticism it invites. And yet that has to be balanced against the fact that the first lady, like anybody else, is in need of a vacation and a change of scenery."( AP Photo)
That was a Opinion piece the dollar number maybe right.
Yes, she took vacation and when you live in the White House, their vacations cost us money
$468,000. that not big money, for someone of their standing to have a vacation.
If you are interested it what first families spent on travel. You should check on all the ones you can and remember to adjust for inflation. but to take one presidents wife and pick on her without good comparisons, is meaningless.

I agree. And I would say that Melania Trump has destroyed a beautiful garden to satisfy her vanity.

Are they just rude because you do not like them?..I think so. FYI please read the posts and see the rude remarks about our first lady. www.insider.com/melania-trump-white-house-rose-garden-design-history-2020-8That link shows haw the Rose Garden has changed over the years.

Are they just rude because you do not like them?..I think so. I for one always enjoy reading your posts, even if you are sometimes rude. FYI please read the posts and see the rude remarks about our first lady. Trump's wife elicits a lot of criticism because although it seems like she knows better, nevertheless she continues to play along with his empty-headed game. I feel sorry for her, she tried to imitate First Lady Michelle Obama, but was unable to pull that off.

The whole damn family seems focused on destroying instead of creating. Those words on her jacket are true.
She never wanted this job. That's obvious. She couldn't care less about anything but herself.
Besides, I can hardly understand a thing she says. They are a perfect match. They both love themselves more than anything or anybody. Ain't love grand?
We do not have a real president and we do not have a real First Lady. It's a dumb reality show that we are paying for.
Trump complained that Obama was on tv too much. Any time of the day I put the tv on trumps stupid looking face is there or there's a crawler about him or his porn star wife.
They are a disgrace to The Peoples House. Deplorables with a capital D. IMHO, of course.
Old Montana is grasping for straws and back to his favorite game of tit for tat.
Hello? The Obamas are no longer in the WH. You had 8 years to moan and groan about them and you did it very well. Bringing them up now is a little pathetic, silly, sad, and childish.

This entire discussion about the Rose Garden redesign is ridiculous! Trump has done his best to destroy anything he can from previous presidencies in order to leave his own mark. A dog will pee on sign left by another dog, just so the spot has his/her own odor... even if it indelibly soils the spot. The Rose Garden fiasco is nothing but another contrived issue to direct attention away from the more serious issues. The Rose Garden can be rebuilt to near the same as it was before the Trumps peed all over it. 200,000 lives lost to COVID because the dotard in the White House prioritized his reelection over the lives of citizens can't be replaced. The damage done to our allies across the globe as Trump has bowed to his idol... Putin... will take decades to rebuild. And... the corruption he is openly suggesting to make certain he is not ushered out of the White House in January is a much more serious issue than plants and flowers. Folks, we cannot allow the discussions to become the Rose Garden, the Trumps inability... or refusal... to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at a 911 memorial, 'spreader' political rallies, etc. cloud the real issue at hand!!!! We MUST vote him out in November against his being ready to have Barr confiscate ballots, put his armed cronies at polling places, have his Postmaster General shut down mail deliveries until after the election is handed to him. We are facing a corrupt dictator who will pull out all stops to see that he is a resident of the White House for life... if we allow his constant detractions to take our minds off the most important election in American history.

Totally agree, 2old. A garden should not be raised to a top priority order. Great gardens tend to endure, the rest get constantly made over.
The make overs of important Obama legislation is of greater concern.
