Another double donut day - zero new infections and zero deaths. That is the 10th consecutive day Australia wide. The restrictions on house gathering are relaxed and I can now plan a family get together mid February. I am very happy about that.

The restrictions on house gathering are relaxed and I can now plan a family get together mid February. I am very happy about that. We are scheduled for our second dose the 18th of February. Fauci says give it 10 days to 2 weeks after the final dose for the vaccine to have its full effect. That means by the first of March, we should be fairly well protected. Will be a significant relief. Hope to be able to visit daughter and see the son when he returns from Korea. We will remain masked up and social distanced for the foreseeable future. Our community scheduling more and more vaccine clinics. Some of our close friends who missed the first wave are scheduled for tomorrow. The gentleman in one couple has a plethora of health issues. Would have liked to have seen him in the first wave. They don't do anything on line. The first wave was almost all done via on line registration and notification by text or email. Really hindered many of our generation who are not computer literate. Local health department is trying to correct that with more work via phone. Another is one of the wife's good friends whose son made her promise not to get the vaccine. He says it is tainted, untested, and is apt to do more danger than good. In the meantime, between my wife and her "gentleman friend" she is signed up and plans to get the vaccine. She, too, has some health issues. Says she won't tell her son.

Warrigal ~ I'm glad you can have a family gathering this month. My son and grandsons haven't visited for almost a year!

Something good, and something bad at the same time. This is a blue wren. When I was a child they were fairly common in suburban gardens. I loved them then and every time I see photos like this, I feel very happy. The bad news is that their numbers are in decline due to a number of threats from predators (cats) and competitors (other birds). This makes me very sad.

We had a 60°F day in mid-March, here in the Northeast! That qualifies as good news! I could actually walk up to our mailroom without a coat for the first time in months!

Have never hear of an echidna. We don't have them in the U.S. It's cute.

They are rather elusive. I've only ever see one in the wild. I saw it shuffling along in the distance and ran down a hill for a closer look. It was half buried in the dirt when I got there which is its usual defense mechanism. I was very excited to have seen it at all.

Something good that I just heard on the radio in Sydney.
The vaccination program in US is doing exceptionally well. The vaccination target has been raised from 100 million jabs in 100 days to 200 million in the same time period.
This is very impressive and I have to admit that I thought it could not have been this successful.
Well done, USA.

Good to see your post, you've been in my thoughts as I hadn't seen anything posted by you of late. I was a bit concerned. Good news is, here you are seemingly well.

To tell the truth, US politics post Trump is a lot less fascinating because the adults are now in charge. The freak show seems to have left town.
We have our own freak show here in Canberra right now. The government has what it thinks is a woman problem but what it really is is a man problem. A rape in the office of the Minister for Defense that was covered up, politicians behaving badly towards women, a member of parliament who has been trolling and stalking female constituents and government staffers who have been performing, filming and sharing lewd acts in the parliamentary building, including masturbating on the desk of a female MP. The Attorney General has been accused of an historic rape but the woman has since killed herself. He is on sick leave to prepare his defamation case against the ABC and the reporter who broke the story. The Minister for Defense is also on sick leave for a heart problem that manifested after the rape story, and her part is covering it up, hit the headlines.
In the middle of this is a Prime Minister who regards all of this as political problems that need to be managed, when the women of Australia are screaming out for real change. The way things are going he is likely to be challenged for the leadership. In OZ this happens when he no longer has the confidence of the parliamentary party. A leadership spill is called and they vote on who should be the leader. Whoever wins, incumbent or challenger, become is the PM and the Governor General swears the challenger into office if that is the way the vote goes. The new PM then rearranges his (and currently now female is in the running) cabinet of ministers, sacking some and promoting others.
None of this is likely to pacify the women who have rallied and marched for justice.

Something good.....we can go back to Thailand this winter. We need to prove we are vaccinated and have a negative test. Just hope the trip to Michigan in July is as easy.
