Seems the 24-hour news cycle inundates us with politics, murders, violence... depressing things. Those things make headlines while so many good things being done by good people go unnoticed. What is something or someone in your community... your State... your Country... the world that is a "feel good" story? Someone making a difference? They're out there! Let's dig and find them... In a community about an hour east of us, this lady has begun sewing classes. When I was in high school, there was always "home/ec". The girls... yes it was that long ago... were required to take Home/Ec to learn cooking and sewing... how to be a "good housewife"! Younger generations no longer know how to sew. How many of your kids/grandkids have a sewing machine. I thought it was an interesting article. www.ksnt.com/news/local-news/lawrence-woman-starts-sewing-class-bringing-back-home-economics-skills/What can you find????

Our power company put up 3 ospery nests here on Long Island. That I know of.
Driving by we can see the little heads popping up while mom and dad (I think) bring them lunch.
It's a beautiful thing.
Btw, I had to take home economics. First I had to take sewing, to make an apron for the cooking class. Hated both those classes! I would have rather taken shop and learn how to make a bird house.
Have you noticed how men are chefs and women are only cooks? Just saying. Lol.

I remember Home Ec classes, sewing the apron and the teacher that was notoriously known far and wide..lol
For my 'something good'....I just got home from Walmart, picking up my groceries and meds while sitting in my car....can't say enough about how Walmart and employees have helped me with this, they go far and above to help. They are constantly streamlining these conveniences to improve it too.

Have you noticed how men are chefs and women are only cooks? Just saying. Lol. Our son is "just a cook"... .and Army cook. He has an entire wall of gold and silver American Culinary Society medals from culinary competitions. He has been on stage, cooking against a Food Network chef. Three years of his career were spent as a chef in the Executive Dining Facility at the Pentagon. He IS a chef! When he was taking teams to the All Military Culinary Competition, his teams were split about half and half male and female. He's had some awesome female chefs working with him over the years. He doesn't get to do much actual cooking with the Army anymore. Most of his work is administrative. Once he retires, he could go any number of places as a chef. Instead, he wants to teach culinary science. Says too many kids get "stuck" in fast-food type establishments where there is not much chance for growing to their full potential. We have a 14 year old granddaughter that is turning into one heck of a baker. Her folks won't let her bake as much as she wants since they are on diets. So... two or three times/week we are blessed with scones, cake, cookies, homemade bread, etc.

Morning COVID update for my state (NSW) reported zero new positive cases. First time in fifteen weeks. Last time this happened was June 10. Wonderful news, Warrigal. I hope it continues. My 'Good News' is that my state's new 24 hour positive rate was under 1,000 and its the lowest number per day since reporting began.

Warrigal and Helen, thank you for posting good news! All bad news all the time is such a downer.
Thank you both again!

Sorry, my good news must be retracted. Low number must have been a fluke. Today's number of new cases back over 3,000.
I do have good news though. Jeff Daniels was spectacular in his role as James Comey in the new miniseries, "The Comey Rule" broadcast Sunday and Monday nights. Guy who played Trump was pretty good but Daniels deserves Academy Award. Not an easy role and he aced it.

This is from the Premier of Victoria today, the state most badly affected by COVID 19. The capital city, Melbourne, has been under stage 4 restrictions, the harshest stage of all.
Well done, Dan Andrews, for your strength of courage and your leadership.

Excellent news in New South Wales. Today is our ninth day with no new community spread COVID cases. We are on our way to being able to travel to other states if we can manage another five days of zero community transmission. Victoria, the other state where COVID numbers were high, is still coming down but everything is looking good. www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-04/nsw-coronavirus-ninth-day-without-locally-acquired-cases/12730172This success has been largely driven by state premiers, not the federal government. The feds have been providing much needed financial support for businesses and individuals but they have been rather derelict in their plans for keeping people in nursing homes safe. Aged care is a commonwealth responsibility. In two days the federal budget will be revealed. It has been delayed by 3 months while the pandemic was less controlled.

The run of good luck has ended. Today there were 8 new cases and only 5 could be easily explained as to the source. Three are mystery infections and there is a scramble on to trace the unknown contact. The three are linked but where they became infected is the mystery.

Finally! Victoria has achieved the almost impossible.
This has been a very hard slog for the Victorians, particularly those living in and around Melbourne. The state premier, Dan Andrews has been crucified daily in the media but for over 3 months he has fronted the press with daily updates and answered all their questions as best he could. Every other state refused entry to Victorians (and people from NSW, my state) and only now are they beginning to think about opening up. Politics is causing the delay - Queensland goes to the polls next Saturday.
Today is the second day where there have been no new COVID 19 cases in Victoria and zero deaths.
The following are extracts from a longer article on this subject. Full version available from link at bottom

From my FB....couldn't get picture to post.
A story from early voting at West Seneca Community Center in MI and not what you might expect. In the photo, you can see the back of an elderly man with a cane and a hat with stars on it being helped by a woman in a pink coat. He had walked all the way to the back of the line to vote despite having trouble even standing. When others realized his plight because of the pink coat lady (who didn’t want any credit or to be recognized), they wanted to give him their spot. It was like a domino effect as she walked him down the line - people kept waving him forward until he was brought right into the building. It was a beautiful thing to see happen. His name is Robert. He told me he will be 98 next month and that he knew there would be a long line but he was willing to wait. It was that important to him to vote. He’s a WWII vet who served in Europe against the Germans. “It was tough,” he said. I know this because I later found him and walked with him to his car parked far in the back. As we walked, people in the long line waved to him and he waved back smiling. The kindness of strangers clearly meant a lot to him. Thank you for your service Robert - giving up our spot in line was the least anyone could do for you.

That is good news indeed. Good on Robert for coming out to do his civic duty and good on all the other voters for helping him in this regard.
