One word: Re-election
This is Trump's finest achievement- a drastically overblown but badly mismanaged response to the Corona virus soon-to-be pandemic.
A Trillion plus dollars right out of Public funds, to grease the palms of voters! Does anybody remember GW Bush's economic stimulus? Does anyone remember how well that went?
Economy is ruins at the end of the Bush Regime, Democrats left to clean up the mess but get the flippin' blame by the fascist news(oops I meant FOX...uh, same thing).
@amins, I hope the "swear filter" works here 'cause this kind of $h!t makes me wanna swear!

I just turned on the news and saw a clip of Trump claiming to be a"wartime president" because of Covid-19. Now he thinks he's FDR or Truman. I can see him charging up Capitol Hill on his golf cart.

Working class people will not be able to pay rent or make house payments. Our governor has ordered no foreclosures or evictions for the near future. We live in a community with a large state university and we are next door to a large U.S. Army installation. Slumlords are refusing to waive rent payments, threatening renters they will be evicted when the Governor's order is lifted if they miss payments. Schools are cancelled, but classes are being held on line. How are folks furloughed supposed to keep paying for internet so their children can continue education? It goes on and on!
This administration MUST get money in the hands of those who have been sent home without a paycheck... immediately! Historically, subsidies will go to large corporations with the old "trickle down" lies. Politicians are much more likely to stuff dollars in the pockets of donors than in the pockets of working class folks. That protocol must change... but probably won't!

The approximately $1 trillion package would give a $1,200 tax rebate to people who earned $75,000 or less in 2018. The rebate gradually decreases for higher incomes, and people earning more than $99,000 would get nothing — a slightly higher cap than anticipated. Lower-income people would get less as well, with a minimum rebate of $600 if their income was at least $2,500. The 247-page bill also proposes a $500-per-child rebate. ========================================================================================= Sounds OK. I think why Lower-income people would get less as well, with a minimum rebate of $600 if their income was at least $2,500. is most of them already get government help. Remember this is a bipartisan bill.

Vote was 47 to 47. Doesn't sound "bipartisan" to me!! Cities, counties, and states need some relief due to the tax date being pushed back. Their budgets depend on tax revenue. Many small hospitals are city or country owned. No money in this bill going directly to states, counties, or cities.
Nothing in this bill directed money to hospitals, first responders, etc. They are on the front lines. Many in the field are having to purchase their own PPE on the open market. Why isn't any money going to those on the front line?
The Dems wanted something in the bill that would direct money to those who are being laid off... losing their income. Instead, the check to every person making less than $75,000 is simply trying to buy November votes. I'm on Social Security. That will continue to come in. I'm not being laid off and shouldn't get any handout. Our son is U.S. Army. He will still get a paycheck. Why should he get a handout. Money needs to go to those whose lives have been affected by this economic catastrophe.
Most of the bill was a slush fund for Mnuchin. Once passed, it was totally up to this administration to grease whatever palms they desire. No accountability. Trump keeps wanting to get money to the cruise lines. Why? The major cruise lines are not even based/registered in the United States. They base in other countries to dodge taxes here. If they aren't paying taxes, here, why should we hand them millions of tax dollars? The Dems want to make sure the money flows back to workers and not into huge bonuses for already overpaid CEO's. Nothing in this bill dictates that! There is nothing to stop this from being gifted to Mar-La-Go members instead of those sent home with no pay from hotels and restaurants.
Hopefully, the lobbyists who wrote this bill for McConnell are sent home and those who actually want to author something to assist those in need get the job done.

Basically the GOP wrote a bill and tried to use the medical emergency to jam it down the Democrats throat.
If the Democrats did not swallow it, the GOP would shout that they did not care about Americans.
Who is being political, Using the medical emergency to get a wish list of tax cuts, without the really working with the
Democrats, it kind like tramp's middle east peace deal. Just one sided, Then claiming the Democrats are being political.

Remember this is a bipartisan bill. Bipartisan? Don't make me laugh. The Democrats want to help those who have lost income and have nothing to fall back on. The Republicans want to reward their handlers, which leaves the poor holding the bag, into which no crumbs will trickle. I don't need a check. Yet. If this lasts too long, I'll struggle also. Many other people will get checks they don't need. Both parties can make improvements to their plans. While they haggleu, people in need will starve or die.
