We received ours today, two of them. One for each residence on our property with separate street addresses.
One residence we live in. The other, is vacant most of the time except for the occasional company we have and let them stay in it for a few days so we are not all under foot while visiting.
I filled the one out to mail back for the one we do live in. The other vacant resident, I read on it, to either log into their website or call the phone number on page 8 to be instructed what to do if no one lives at that residence. I chose the latter.
The guy I'm having this conversation with, tells me, I need to call the 800 number on page 8. "What 800 number," I said. "The only number on page 8 is the number I just called and am now speaking to you!" He was totally confused. Put me on hold to go ask someone else what to do. Comes back, tells me to log into the website or call the 800 number and there/they would tell me what to do. I laughed. Asked him if he has a problem comprehending my situation that we do not reside at this residence, that it is vacant. Having this conversation with this guy was like playing, who's on first!
Finally just told him, "I would be writing 'vacant resident' across the census and mailing it back to you today. He got excited and states, "YES, you can do that!" (Well, duh!)
I also made sure I added to the 'vacant resident' notice across the form...his name, time I spoke with him and date too.
Anyway...the form is quite short. Appears they were mainly interested in what nationality you were and the number of people residing at the residence.
