How the coronavirus is affecting sports....LA Times. Most North American sports leagues, including Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NFL and the NHL are monitoring the situation, with moves such as canceling or postponing games or holding events without spectators in attendance emerging as the virus and COVID-19 continue to spread around the world.
Leagues in other parts of the world are taking action by canceling events and playing in empty stadiums.
Well, there you go even sports is getting hit. More interesting reading and browsing in the article. I'm not a big sports fan but thought this was telling.

The postponement(s) will have adverse affects all the way around. The hardest hit will be the Sports Bars, Restaurants, and Supermarkets/Food Suppliers.

Yes, many people will suffer financial hardships due to the challenges of this pandemic. Finally.... FINALLY, people seem to be weighing the cost of jobs and incomes against the threat to human lives. Honestly, it really surprises me that sports venues are actually being altered and cancelled. We live in a society where sports seem to take precedent over so many more important things. Las Vegas is in a tailspin. The betting on March Madness generates millions of dollars. The leagues... NBA, NHL, MBL are worried about television contracts. What will we do if we can't play or watch sports??? Parents will be devastated if their kids can't play in summer traveling teams. If the kid can't play summer league sports he/she may not make the fall school team. Oh, my!!!! Sorry! I sound like a sourpuss. I just am a believer that entirely too much emphasis... and dollars... is spent on sports that could be spent on scholastic initiatives which would help in making giant strides in the fields of science and medicine and...…. Rant off.

20ld, I think my dd is nuts the way they run around taking the grands to all their sport activities! Sports all year round. Softball practice in a gym. I told them to go hit snowballs, Nkat One of my best friends and his wife follow their grandkids, religiously, in their sports activities. This past few weeks, they have gone to a second grader's basketball games twice/week. During the summer, four of their local grandkids are involved in junior golf programs. It is not unusual for the mom to take one kid, the dad to take one kid, and each of the grandparents to take a kid... and drive miles to a golf tournament with them. They drive from Kansas to North Dakota to watch a grandkid run a track meet. He often says one of the daughters is upset because they are spending too much time with one family's sports events and not enough following their kids. It's almost a competition as to who "gets" G&G for the next kid's event. We love our grandkids. None of the 8 have been involved in youth sports programs. We've been to some chorale concerts, etc. But... it's not the day in and day out, 12-month, involvement that seems to be the demand of youth sports.

They were going to stay a weekend in another state so my gd in sixth grade could play in a basketball tournament. Really! nkat
