I do believe Trump purposely denied the offered handshake from Pelosi. This was his third SOTU speech and he knew the protocol. His nose is out of joint. He despises Pelosi... and all Democrats who voted to impeach... and he knew long before walking into the Chambers he would not shake her hand. I have mixed feelings about Pelosi tearing up the speech. On one hand, I stand with her and applaud her for showing the Nation the speech wasn't worth the paper it's written on. Nothing but fabrications and a campaign speech. After seeing a person who has made millions dividing our country receive the Medal of Honor, she was rightfully upset. Limbaugh has denigrated a President's daughter on his radio program. Called her the "White House dog". He called a college student a "slut" because she wanted access to doctor prescribed contraceptives. A despicable person who has been married multiple times and was caught sneaking opioids into the Country... for which he should have done prison time. Was the ripping up of the speech showing due respect for the Chamber? Probably not. Was the ripping up of the speech an effort to heal the divisiveness in our country? Probably not. Would have sitting there and not making some show of the disrespect of the Chamber shown by a lying, hateful, possibly treasonist, racist, politician been the correct thing to do? The actions of both have happened and cannot be taken back. History will tell the story of both. People of differing political persuasion will always tell the story from a different perspective. i agree.we're are so frustrated that i don't know what the proper thing to do with trump.he's sending the country into the abyss.

Remember this too, Nancy P was not High on going with impeachment...she was talked into it as time went on.
We'll see how much this impeachment does at the ballot box.."T and his people are celebrating their victory.

He saw her extended hand. He's a sexist waste of human flesh.
He doesn't have an ounce of respect for women. Or his elders. Or anybody smarter than him. Which means every living Being on the planet.
He's a spoiled, puffed up rich blob who has no class, decency, respect, or values. Money can't buy any of those things.
He was not elected. He was selected. He's a dangerous man. A pompous fool.

Joymarty, I don't think The Speaker was being a hypocrite. I think she was being polite.
A handshake usually happens before and after a debate, a boxing match, a game show, etc. It's less than a hug but more than a wave when you meet someone or depart from them. It's polite. Times are changing. Rude and crude is more acceptable these days. Pelosi is old school. Habits and traditions are difficult to break.
Trump saw her extended hand. He blew her off on national television. He is rude and crude. She responded in kind. Do unto others as they do unto you.
Everybody knows she's smarter than him including him. He dissed her. She gave it right back.
I don't have an ounce of respect for him. He's a disgrace to the office. I have a huge amount of respect for Nancy Pelosi. She makes me proud. He makes me cringe.
The speech was a waste of paper. She did the right thing.

...but they would be different people. Different how? Race? Creed? Color? Religion? National origin? Sexual affiliation?
A spade is a spade no matter what you call it or how you try disguise it. But are you trying to say that it (the 'stunts') would have been alright and acceptable if it were anybody but Mr. Trump?

Not at all. Bad form (which is a subjective judgement, I know) is still bad form whoever is guilty of it.
I would think that in the current US political climate the people objecting to Trump's stunts during the SOTU address would mostly be Democrats and if Obama had done the same, he would be criticised by mostly Republicans. They are, as far as I can imagine, different sets of people.
But that is quite hypothetical because as far as I know Obama's SOTU addresses were more traditional. I am however open to correction because I can't say I ever listened to a SOTU speech before. However, I can tell the difference between a serious speech in front of the combined assemblage of both houses of parliament and a campaign rally at the local football stadium. Not the same thing at all. These things are not unknown in my country.

Warrigal, well said.
I didn't watch It because he makes me gag. However, I did see clips. It wasn't a speech informing the nation of anything. It was a pep rally pumping himself up. What else is New?
He knows he should not be there and it shows every time he opens his mouth.
He's an embarrassment.
