I regard Meghan as being a "home-girl" as she is from Southern Calif. I can see how she may have become enamored by Prince Harry. Surely she and Harry knew that the fairy tale lifestyle was not going to be sustainable for them. However I think they could make a go of it, if they could master the art of fulfilling their duties(whatever than entails) as Royals, and keep a lower profile.
But yeah, royalty in the 21st Century? Has GB solved it's poverty/homelessness issues sufficiently?

I'm basically ambivalent about the Royals even though as a very young girl I felt I was destined to marry Prince Charles.. I have enjoyed their antics and assorted scandals over the years.. The Fergie and Diana years were amusing. And like the rest of the world I was aghast when Diana died.. They've been pretty boring for a long time.. this is the first interesting thing that's happened in ions.. Like his great uncle.. Harry is denouncing his royalty for the woman he loves.. and another divorcee too..

There's No Place Like Home. To borrow a line from my favorite movie. Lol.
While they are a cute couple, eventually the cuteness will dwindle, and depending on where they choose to live, one of them will miss their homeland, friends, and family.
Love is blind. When their eyesight is restored and they can see clearly again, one of them will want to go home.
I don't mean to be a downer. It's in my nature. Lol. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. But, I don't think so.

Thanks, Annie. Interesting. I've loved visiting the U.K. but haven't been since the early 90s and then had little chance to talk with citizens. The British Monarchy and its history has fascinated me since childhood just as it probably does many American girls who grew up on fairy tales of princes, castles, balls and such. I've watched Queen Elizabeth gracefully mature into the woman she is today as she is just a few years older than me but I've never understood the British views on the Monarchy and finance. It seems a family with such enormous wealth should no longer need outside support. About remaining the Head of State - having an admirable Head of State, a figurehead of good character, honest and sincere that citizenry can look up to might be a good thing. It might be useful here. Thanks again for sharing your insight. I also loved all that royalty stuff when I was young. I did not visit England until 1999 and I remember overhearing someone talking about Diana's funeral the year before and how many people were standing outside the cathedral. I hated the way Diana was treated (although she was not totally innocent either). And after moving to Scotland in 2000 I learned how the majority of Scots feel about titles and wealth being bestowed on people simply by accident of their birth. They hate aristocrats. Back hundreds of years ago the English gave land and titles to certain Scots who would do their bidding (and treat other Scots badly). I have learned though after 20 years to admire and respect the Queen as she didn't ask for this position and she always did what was expected of her. She did her duty. I do not like Charles and when he becomes King I think many more people will decide it's time for the monarchy to go. I was eligible for citizenship in 2003 (dual) but I let my husband talk me out of it for several years. I'd have to pledge allegiance to the Queen and her heirs. Finally did it in 2007 as I wanted to vote in the country I lived in and to be a citizen of the country where I'd live the rest of my life. My husband still gives me grief over 'pledging allegiance to the queen'. I had no choice but to say it out loud as I was the only one in the ceremony. I know many expats who are in a group citizenship ceremony and they only mouth the words without saying them. The Queen is one of the richest people in the world. Why do they need my tax money???? When Windsor Castle had a fire years ago and they had no insurance on it, they asked the taxpayers to pay to fix it. WTF????

The Tories have been the government since 2010, so no. The problems have gotten worse, not better.

Live and let live, their lives are not a media game.
The media fun died for me when they killed Diana.

That is horrible news. They want to cut the purse strings to the queen? oh my, what ever will they do to survive. Being totally sarcastic of course. Truth,, they don't live in reality. They will never know what it;s like to struggle,, so removing themselves from " royalty " really has no effect on them financially. Probably won't change the rag sheets chasing them around either.

Personally I think if they wish to be private citizens then fine Leave them alone You know it just as well as everyone including me knows. This will have absolutely no baring on the non stop rag sheet coverage. Now they'll be coined the renegades. Personally I don't give a hoot what they do, nor really care to read about them nor see them plastered all over the TV news magazines and in the rag, aka scandal sheets at the checkout in stores. It's like it;s the first American to marry a royal,, geesh Like my Dad would say when it came to royal stuff,,, " Who cares ! " I say, stop the media coverage of all forms and leave them alone. But, like I said,,, they won't be left alone. Being famous has got to suck the big one. Private life? no such thing.

Apparently Meagan has already scored a contract with Disney to do voiceovers. Harry set it up by talking to the head of Disney when he met him at a function. Harry is quite resourceful. They will find their feet, and good luck to them both.
